I was just as curious as everyone else.

My results are kind of what I was expecting. Here's my take on the tests

The Bing carb and v stack is easily the fastest. Lots of fuel and lots of air

The Bing carb and mesh filter I feel the filter is what's holding it back. Lots of fuel potential but the filter is maxed out

The Zama carb mesh filter. Slowest of the day. Need more fuel and air

The Zama carb no choke and mesh filter. Getting more air but not enough fuel

The Zama carb no choke and v stack. Same as mesh filter. Getting lots of air but needs more fuel.

What do you guys think? I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this testing for all of us.
I like the Bing and Vstack.

From what I can tell the Zama carb has potential to be every bit as good as the Bing. With a bit work to the fuel delivery and opening up the Venturi a touch I think it would be just as good. I don't know enough about carbs to even think of messing around with the Zama.

Me neither. I know some carbs with the brass nozzle protruding into the carb flow more air than a carb with the same size venturi and no nozzle protruding. Weird.

Thanks for taking the time to do this Mike. I woulda thought the Vstack and ZAMA woulda been close. I was wrong.
How about posting a picture of the wetside of the Zama carb? Maybe we can re-jet it to perform as good, if not better, than the Bing.
Oh yeah....

It was @Larry Joe MS360.

It slowed the Saw down, but with an epoxied intake it may not.

These saws have a lot of intake duration from the factory. I believe the small boot with the textured inner portion helps keep velocity up and spitback low.

Mikes saw has an 83* intake floor. Raising that to 78 may make an 038 boot work more betterer.

But I wouldn't play with what he's go going on there. That's the fastest non-race 036 I've seen.

Ok. That was it. Just wondering how this saw would react to the stock boot.

Agreed. My 036 has similar porting done by the same garage hack.

I have the stock boot.

We can toss the bing on my saw at the GTG and see what it does if you guys want to.

As a side note, I used an AM 038 boot when I tried this. It had a totally smooth bore. I think Mike used an OEM boot. Not sure if it has the knurled inside like the OEM 036 boot does.

Good thought on the am boot. I'm not sure either. Maybe Mike noticed.
We are going to have a good time!

Just asking, would an 044 intake boot fit on there?
I can bring one to try if you think it would fit.
