I run amsoil saber mixed 40:1 with 90 or 91 e free in all my saws.Hey Mike. Just curious as to what oil you are using and what ratio and fuel.
Really cool experiment.
The Doc does nice clean work. I could never get my intake port sides as square-looking as his. Turns out if you grab an AM jug and get after it without any worries, it is possible, lol.I'd love to see what you guys come up with. I won't touch the beautiful port work that's been done to my saw.
I can swap out the Bing for the Zama pretty easy. I'll try and run the Zama with and without the choke rod installed. The velocity stack has a choke right? So maybe the stock setup could work just as well but won't have a choke.
What I'd really like to see first though is this exact setup with the Zama carb. Not sure if you could take the choke out of the stack though. Don't need 2 chokes...

Fixed. No rest for the wicked. Chop chop. Times a wastingSo this is what I'm thinking for testing.
Test 1. 038 boot, Bing carb, 036 metal mesh filter
Test 2. 038 boot, zama carb, 036 metal mesh filter
Test 3. 038 boot, zama carb w/o choke shaft, 036 metal mesh filter
Test 4. 038 boot, Zama carb, v stack and foam filter
Test 5. 038 boot, zama w/o choke, v stack
Test 6,7,8,9 repeat 2-5 with 036 boot
Test 10, 11, 12, 13 repeat 6-9 with bing carb
What do you guys think?
I actually was trying to simplify your sequence by doing all tests possible with the 038 boot first, since that's the more difficult change. As I got thinking about all the different possibilities, it started looking overwhelming . I think if you randomly tried a few combinations, you'd soon realize where the big gains are. Worst case scenario is that each mod is only good for a 5% gain and you'd have to stopwatch each event to tell the difference.Give me a couple of days and I'll see what sort of tests I can get done.
That's nearly 8 hp from 8000-13500 rpm. Pretty much the reason I haven't searched for carb options too much.
This same saw struggled to make 5.5 hp with a stock fleeced air filter. I didn't try it with a metal filter, but that's the reason I prefer metal on all of my 026/36 builds.
I think this illustrates, in part, what the airflow to the carb entry can do for power in the 036.
I'm very interested in what the ZAMA will do with the choke removed and a V stack.
Awesome idea about the primer bulb Doc
