I have an older style 036 and the tank vent leaks like a sieve when you turn it on its side. I had a new one so I threw that on and it still leaks. It’s definitely coming from the vent, I removed the vent and put my finger over the vent hole and turned it upside down and no leaks. Anyone know how to stop it from leaking or know if there’s an updated vent for my tank? Here’s the picture of my piece of sh*T vent lolIMG_0647.jpeg

I had a saw with one of those vents (I think an 026 or an 046) and was not a fan of it either. I think I changed it up with a short piece of fuel line with grub screws in it instead.

There’s a rubber flapper valve that’s in the tank and the tit should be sticking out of the vent hole. It’s installed from inside the tank outward. It’s probably missing or bad.

You can get one, or order the accelerator pump valves for Holley carbs (same size) and get 10 for the same price as one oem Stihl piece.

It’s likely what it is. They used a few different vents over the years. There’s a newer style duckbill valve that’s black and installs from the outside in as well.

Thanks guys, so there is nothing in the hole that goes in the tank where the vent goes. Which number on the IPL do I need 16 or 22 or both ?

Either, not both. If you have a slit type hole, 22. Round hole, 16

So this is the tank vent hole so use 22 ? Thanks for the help guys. I might have one of these check valves from from an old homelite XL2. I think I remember using these when I rebuilt one years ago.

A pic of the vent hole would help

Try and measure that hole you have. This black one is about 1/4" where it inserts. The other one, red, is about 1/8". I have those as well
