I wanna go over it with a fine toothed comb.

Drop the whole mess in a box Dan. Let me know what it weighs and the box size.......I'll email you a shipping label. That is if you have a printer......and a fedex place.

with that amount of carnage you'd think there'd be more stuff some where.

Is it a foreign object or part of the saw?

And that is the right thing to do. Never go wrong by doing what's right.

The intake ate something, caused the plating to peel, shot up into cylinder.

Yeah......but.

Where did the intake get anything to eat?

I did a 372 out of a box of parts that had suffered a big end rod bearing failure. After it grenaded.....yeah......it grenaged. I found a piece of a needle bearing lodged in the case. On this saw though, there were no loose needle bearings. All I could figure was that a piece of a needle bearing from the first crank failure had somehow been stuck inside the pleats of the air filter. Remember.....it was all just dumped into a box together when I got it. After a few weeks of run time it came loose and tore up hell. I rebuilt it again.......and after about a month it hung a ring......

I bought it back from the guy I sold it to........rebuilt it again, and ran it for about two years. I called it "old reliable". lol

yep. The small particle looks like a fine from a wire brush? Is it possible it was cleaned with a wire brush before reassembly?
