I'd hang on to it myself. It's a real nice example of the early version. And I may be mistaken, but weren't the first ones built in Czechoslovakia?

Close, Slovenia, in the Tomos factory and I think it was later in the production years, like the grey tops.
I also thought the very early ones had a one screw in the middle top cover attachment.

A little reading seems to indicate that's a common number on early 5 and 6 digit silver tags and that there wasn't an actual date added to the serial number schema until around 1980? Lots of interesting conversation about early Husky serial numbering out there..., none of it very definitive prior to early 80's numbering.

Do we have proof on this? The 162/630 top end is a direct interchange and is closed port. I have yet to run into a closed port 61, and I have had saws from 78 through 1995 across my bench.
Not going to say it's not possible as my father had a 42 special that came out of the box with a closed port 242 top end, but it is highly unlikely with the 61.

Ok you hooskie buffs, I've got a question for yous. I'm a little confused about the spin off deal from Electrolux in 2006. Did Husqvarna become its own entity again at the spin off or are they technically still part of Electrolux? This may see like a dumb question but hey I'm not exactly a genius....so yeah.

Husky is its own entity again. It has partial ownership by a holding company, which also has a similar interest in Electrolux.

Thanks! Kinda what I thought after doing some reading. Until recently though I never new that Electrolux had acquired so many saw brands.

Just finished up an overhaul with a real classic. Thought you guys would appreciate it. 288 exx peee with the high top, original KS cylinder with nos piston and full wrap. Runs great, hell of a lot of power and compression. Very noisy too with the dual port muffler. When I brought it home it was rough but had a k&n with adapter. I decided to keep the adapter and got a new k&n filter for it. I have never run k&n filter on saws and have heard mixed opinions on them. The number one thing I've heard is that if you don't keep them oiled and cared for they can let fines in. That and working in dusty and really rough environments fines can get past them. Any thoughts or opinions on them?
