Excellent info thank you. I saw there was also was a Military connection somewhere with the 70 . Saw a post on CSC ..Husky made some versions of the 70 in the 1960s after they took over the design from the originator Cresent. Cresent mainly was making outboard engines, and the two brand made at deal that Husky should stop making such engines, while Cresent should leave the chainsaw business. Also, Husky needed to offer something lighter than the MS90/100 saws.
There was a Partner version of this design as well.
Husky replaced this design by the much better A65/A77 design a few years later (still in the 1960s).

From a time of the old "White Knuckle " , no emission controls and with a little "Mass" i would say Andrew !!Good find there I like this model its more like the Dolmars big and heavy
View attachment 21835 I thought I would share these , don't know much about the 50 special but hopefully will gain some knowledge
Does anyone know what year the 372xp started the xtorq series?
An upgraded version of the 50 (rancher), with a 45mm cylinder instead of a 44mm. It soon was replaced by the (further upgraded) 51 and 55.
Ok thanks what performance is expected from this saw its the anniversary model it feels nice and solid a nice looking saw what would the max RPM be on this model
I would expect it to be pretty much like the 51, and not much different from the 50 (rancher). Max rpm should be 12.500.
A large part of the 50 Special production (maybe 100%) took place in 1989, so no wonder it is from that year - actually I don't think I have heard of one that wasn't, and the first 51/55 IPL is dated January 1990
