I gather the Husqvarna 572xp has been out for a number of years. What’s the verdict on these chainsaws?
They have been out for a while. I sold a number of these, the only complaint I heard was when they throw a fault (the auto tune senses an out of tolerance parameter), then the saw shuts down (to protect itself) and requires a technician with a dongle and laptop to reflash the firmware to get it working again. If you don't want the autotune, then you can look for a 372 or even old school 272.

A friend of mine bought one and really liked it until he bought a Stihl 500i and now uses that as his main saw.

I have several and log walnut with them. All ported. If you keep em serviced well they are the perfect saws imo. Wish they had em years ago. The 500 is ,so floppy and alot more vibrating than a 572. In my area the dealer has em in buckets where the owner finds they are too expensive to fix if out of warranty.

If you like the saw and the price point get it.
Just like all things mechanical, when it's working, it's working and when it's not it's a piece of śhít.
@bradb123 has put quite a bit of fuel through a bunch of 572's and I haven't heard him say anything that would steer me away from one.

I think I did hear Brad say that he likes unfrosted Pop Tarts though, so he may not be in his right mind.

You can do a search for the "572xp update" thread. Lot's of good info there.
I've always had a couple of good 2 and 3 series Husky saws, no need to be an early adopter of the 5 series. I now have a 572xp, ported by MMWS. I haven't had this saw long enough to say for sure, but it's likely the best saw I've ever owned. It cuts right along with anything out there.
The bonus is the autotune. I live in southern MN, the weather can swing wildly, during any season. A week ago it was 5 below, last couple of days in the 50's. Just yesterday I dropped three ash trees, one was a little more than 3' DBH, the other two smaller. With everything on the ground, and the bigger limbs cut, I set the 572 down and picked up a 346. It flooded on the first pull. It was too nice of a day, I was having too much fun and not paying attention. I've learned this lesson before, but sometimes I get lazy, or just oblivious. If you haven't run the saw recently, in the same conditions as today, don't grab it and yank the rope. You need to bottom out all three jets, turn them out 1 1/4 turns, start the saw and tune from there. The 572 will supposedly not suffer this condition. The first time I started it, I tried to follow the procedure in the user manual. The instructions seemed kind of stupid, contradictory, and counter intuitive. After about six pulls I figured WTF! I put the tip on a block of wood, grabbed the throttle, and pulled. It fired right up, and has every time since. Two pulls on the first start of the day, one pull for the rest of the day. No choke, no fast idle setting, no blah blah anything. Push the decomp, grab the throttle, pull the rope, fires right up. When the 346 flooded, I didn't bother to go get a different saw. I picked up the 572 and cut up all three trees. I don't usually wade around in the tops of three tangled up trees with a large, long bar saw. It was surprisingly easy. Very comfortable saw to use, not a chore at all. So far, it is a very small sample size, but I predict this will become my go to saw. Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to add some context.

my 572 has been a good runner, balances good with a light 28 inch bar, im a firewood hack and I cut 10ish cord a year, and I really enjoy using quality tools.

autotune/strato saws need quality oil mixed a little richer, 32:1 is what I mix mine at. and they especially need a a sharp chain, if the chain gets dull they will lean out and start to fun funky.

keep your chains sharp and mix a good amount of quality oil and you will definatley enjoy running a 572

The biggest think I think about the 572 is that it’s a hell of a deal. For $300 less than an MS 462, with running characteristics more in line with what I like, if I had to buy several new saws I would buy a couple, then take the money saved and spend it in Cannon Duralites.

But as far as problems, I think they’re pretty well squared away. My understanding is that they had some issues with plastic caged bearings early on, but those were taken care of years ago. They’re a good, stout saw. Probably best paired with a 24-28” bar if you’re east of the Rockies and leaving it stock, you could go up to 32” cutting softwoods.

It's been shared how nice the auto tune is. I agree totally. I have been cutting when a front comes through and you can hear it changing. Or if it's sittin̈g on truck when you start it you can hear it change right away. I know that at least for me I wouldn't have taken time to adjust one myself during the day on the older saws.
