I have a close friend that has been cleaning up his woods the last two years and hauling every bit of firewood up here for me to burn. I want to get him a new or very nice shape used saw as a thank you as he's hauled at least 40 cord up here thus far.

He currently runs a Husqvarna Rancher 450 with an 18" bar and it's quite tired. I own all Stihl stuff so what to get is a bit of a mystery to me when it's not a Stihl so I figured I'd reach out to the collective OPE minds.

Price isn't a huge deal as I'd like to get him something that'll last and fit his needs more than worrying about saving $100 on something.

Needs/Wants

- Larger CC than the Rancher 450
- Capable of a 24" bar
- Probably not an AutoTune saw (or whatever the M-Tronic version is)
- Dead nuts reliable as he's not big into maintenance . We've had conversations about this and he's at least checking the air filter during each fuel fill now. Supposedly lol.
- As light as possible without being a pooch.

I'd really like to get something from an OPE member VS buying in a big box store or wherever Husky stuff can be found. Doesn't need to be modded but I wouldn't say no to a gently modded saw. No porting though.

Thank you in advance !!
-Mike

Husqvarna 562 Mark 2 , ask Bruce at HL Supply, he’ll hook you up,
This.

Or you buy the earlier 359(semi pro) or the 357(pro). Both those use the same cases, just different cylinders.
Next step up would be a 365/2166(jred, same basic saw) or a 372/2172. These are the xtorq saws and they are all built on the same chassis as well. The 365/2166 can be modded fairly easily to perform just like the 372/2172 as they all run tye same chassis' and cylinders.

Find him an oe 372xp. There is a fairly nice one for sale on the other forum.
372xp will have the tunable carb, but is about 2 lbs heavier than a 562xp, not sure if the 562 has a carb (non-autotune) option. I like both saws, don't have a 372, but I do have a 272xp that I just rebuilt from the bearings up and it is a solid saw, I just set it on the wood and it drops through it.

Ported 346?
Or jump up to 372.
No idea about new units.

Not a Husqvarna guy myself, but those two have a strong following.

I’d be hard pressed to look past a decent used 268XP or 272XP. 1lb, weight difference from the 562, it will pull a 28” bar full comp stock. Good on fuel, manual carb, super easy for anyone to work on. I have a really nice 272XP I’d be willing to part with if you think it might fit the bill.

Can't go wrong with a 272xp or 372xp. I had a 372XP when they first came out and often cry in my beer for selling it. Wouldn't go lower than 70CC to run a 24" bar. He'll feel like a god first time he runs one of these with a 24" bar after running what he has been. Don't let it scare you that both are discontinued. Plenty of parts out there, used, NOS and aftermarket.

Thank you everyone for all the replies !! I messaged Bruce about a 562XP, 24” light bar and a couple chains combo and I think that’s the way I’m leaning.

Getting new for this guy may be the best in this case. I plan to use it at his place a bit so who knows, I may just be converting to the other color orange sometime soon 😂

No need to convert, just add more to your chainsaw family. I started with Stihl, added Husky, then Homelite, then McCulloch...others have been recommending Dolmar and Mastermind has been showcasing the good Echo has. Options, it gives you options!!

Oh I wouldn’t get rid of any of the Stihl stuff lol. I’m quite excited to run this 562. Seems like it’s a really solid saw for its size.

I’ve always wanted to find a couple older McCullochs to tinker with but for now time and money are more limited than I’d like.

A smaller ported echo is on my short list. A nice light saw to limb with instead sounds like a great thing as my back and body aren’t getting younger.

Good choice. Be aware that lighter often means less meat in places you need it. Here lately a couple of popular models have become notorious for having thin cases that crack. What rpm any given saw handles a bar length is the key. Less than 10K in a cut is too slow and bad for the saw for most modern saws under 100 cc.

I had an early model 562XP which pulled a 24in B&C in Sugar Maple, White Oak, Ash, & Honey Locust with no problem even with the bar buried, & it is quite a bit lighter than any 70cc saw except for; a 462 Stihl, 371, 372 low top with small dogs ;). It was a pleasure to handle!
Fixed it for you neighbor .
Hope alls well over your way.

Placed an order with Bruce for a 562 XP Mark 2 with 24” Light Bar and two semi-chisel chains. My buddy is going to soil himself when I give it to him. To say I’m excited is an understatement.

The first new saw and the first Hooski I ever buy and I’m giving it away 😂

It’s more rewarding to give than to receive, you get extra points that ,👍

Oh I’m excited !! I had to cue him in this morning so I didn’t order something he wouldn’t like and I thought the call dropped once I told him my plan. He’s a very chatty guy and I finally found something to quiet him down for a minute !!
