With the bore diameter of a 70 cc saw and the stroke of a 50 cc saw, I dont think the weight savings on the 564 is all that impressive: 12.8 lbs. It still costs as much as a 70 cc saw.

They're marketing this as some sort of pinnacle achievement where this micro-penis-short-stroke architecture has made such a big difference in weight savings.

On the other end of the 60 cc bore/stroke ratio: an echo 590 weighs 13 lbs 5 oz. Its exactly the opposite: A bore diameter similar to a stihl ms 261 and a stroke similar to a husqvarna 181.

According to Tree Monkey this is how all new Stihl’s are, shorter stroke and bigger bore. The weight is advertised as slightly under the 562 and physically smaller. To compare this to an echo 590 is a joke, they are turds stock and heavy. They are good saws when compared to ranchers and farm boss’s which is what it’s sold against

I believe the shorter stroke is for two reasons. It provides for bigger ports and less vibration.
You have to keep in mind that the 590 is an old school design thats probably 30+ years old designs feature wise. The 564 is a modern, strato charged, fuel injected low emmissions saw. In that regard it is really is an achievement and one of a kind.

Couldn't agree more. But you can get 3 590s for the price of a 564. And for most peeps it runs fine.
I think they have to do shorter stroke to keeps the weight down and the size smaller. I think it will be a great firewood saw.
I think the 562 is going to be a better all around saw but we'll just have to wait and see!

Yep, soon as my 564 arrives, that's exactly what it'll be compared to on the timber sale, a $440 home depot saw that had a half minute of free work:
Base gasket delete, timing advance, muffler mod, walbro fuel nozzle.

I dont think a 13 lbs 5 oz 60 cc saw is heavy at all.

Tunes up at 13,200 rpms. 170 psi on the compression tester. Let's see which one likes full house chain on 28" bars. I'll time some cuts.

If your broke and need a saw I would say go Echo over a Husky or Stihl clamshell.

Not a bad idea...
If I were in your shoes and given your remote location the 372 idea is a good one. Even better if you could find the parts to convert it to an XPG given your climate. The 372 XPG is a bullet proof saw, but probably overkill for the wood you will be cutting.
