I wonder if somebody like OTC or Actron has looked at creating an aftermarket scan tool for these or other EFI outdoor power engines. An automotive scan tool has way more going on and you can buy a really good one with graphing and bidirectional control for $500.00. The better DIY scan tools today are more capable than the Mastertech I had at Toyota back in the day.
I would think this will eventually happen.

I would have thought that would have happened during the 15 years that electronic carburetors have been on the market.
The fact that nothing has come of it is probably because the market is so narrow, or the interest is no greater than chainsaw forums.

The market in EU scandinavia is pretty large...

The market for selling scaners to work on saws is an extremely small market, I’d be willing to bet 80% of saw owners don’t care to fix their own saws. That includes the pros who just figure it’s a part of doing business and a saw is a small amount in the grand scheme of things.

Another piece of this is OBD2 came about because CARB forced the OEM's to use a standardized system accross all brands. Prior to that each OEM had their own.
The EPA/CARB could do the same with OPE eventually.

This is because wood production is high, and many who buy suitable chainsaws for it buy an XPG.
But there are not many pro loggers left, it is Ponsee etc that have that market.
The only times a customer gets annoyed that only the dealer can read the autotune is when the saw malfunctions, but if it is within the warranty period, Husky covers it.
And a loyal long-time customer, the dealer usually covers it. I consider the interest in being able to plug in yourself to be microscopic among those who buy XP chainsaws.

I have more faith that there may be a Bluetooth device, a mobile app from Husqvarna, where the customer can read out operating hours, perhaps the carburetor's adjustment range, etc, and the data is sent to Husqvarna automatically

Absolutely right, those who make a living from chainsaws in Scandinavia have little or no interest in fixing the chainsaw themselves, they do basic service themselves like plugs, filters etc. The owners are interested in production hours, not spending time fiddling with autotune!

Blue-tooth saws? Gonna be fun if that gets done. "A new safety or anti theft feature" you have to have an active cellphone and manufacturers software running on your phone or saw wont start.

As for a scanner for the auto-tronics? If there's the slightest inkling of deleting data or modding the perimeters, Good luck with your corporate liability and workmans comp ins policies.
Wether or not the software caused the problem/injury.

Or warranty claims with the saw maker.
Gee Mr lumberjack, you do seem to be pluging in a external device rather often. And our records show that it didn't contact saw-co headquarters servers for authorization.
Was there a valid reason for this?

Call me a cynic...
I still think they'll put in a start/run time counter at some point.
Saw wont start without a count reset from the dealer.
Better keep the stock muffler around or it wont pass the lookover and be reset.

Don’t think anything will go that far but I just don’t think anyone will find it worth the time to make a repair scanner not a programmer. The money that would be made is probably a small amount for the work needed to design and produce for the amount of people that would buy. Stihl already has a Bluetooth device that you can read your equipment within a certain distance. I think it’s just for location of each individual piece doesn’t tell data yet.

I need that impact powered felling wedge in my life!
Pretty nifty. I chased it down the rabbit hole a bit.

Me too… looks very useful. I can see it replacing rope and a come along in backyard felling situations for me.
