Husqvarna 550xp pop up

Never personally modded a 550 muffler. I’ve been told that many of the new husky mufflers are a Bear to modify.

There’s a way to get flow and some quieting effect, but you will lose some performance. You’d have to add internal baffles to make the noise hit other areas and give it time to cancel itself out.

If you can look through the inlet and see the outlet it’s generally not great. Part of why I dislike open front covers so much.

Hi guys, not trying to derail this but it sounds like a lot of 550 experience here. I have a 550xp which was ported by Randy & I love it, my only issue is that I’ve never owned a ported saw before & had no idea how LOUD they were. After running it a while I couldn’t handle the noise ( yes I do wear hearing protection) so I purchased a new factory muffler of Bob Spike60. I have had it on the saw for the last year or so, as you probably know it doesn’t run nearly as well as with Randy’s customized muffler.What I’m wondering is there an in between solution? Perhaps a way to modify the factory muffler to let the saw breath a little better but not be quite so loud. Also am I risking cooking my ported saw by running it with a factory muffler? Thanks guys.

No, those numbers you posted already. I was surprised to see 9° blowdown. The transfers damn near open with the exhaust.

550 and 562 are both like that. I've come up with I think 10° on both of them

Yup, but the first few degrees is the strato dump, so I guess you could say it's a bit more..

It’s with the saw and from what I hear the new owner loves it. I have to say the Craftsmanship on it was top notch and it did help power

About the only thing I can think to say about a modded muffler other than it does help gain power, is if the outlet is aimed away on the off hand side of the saw from the operator, he or she will not be affected near as much.

Ok good to know, I’d gladly trade a stock one back for it if it wasn’t being used. These dam auto saws are loud though with the muffler opened up, ear piercing loud! I wouldn’t think to run them without hearing protection

With the stratos having a separate throttle body on this saw, how do you go about getting fuel over from the carb/intake?
