That's good to hear. In those pictures I had already honed it a bit with sandpaper on a dowel with the drill. There's still a couple of bits of transfer to remove.
This is what mine looked like when I found it at the dump sitting next to the what was there of the power head...I think the dirt left a decent hash marks on the cylinder wall :p

I remember when you first posted that. Still got to be one of the best dump scores!

Ok, broke my rope on the beast so I replaced the rope. My recoil does not want to rewind and some times I pull and it seems to miss all the pawls. New spring? New recoil? Thoughts?

Have you taken it apart to see if the spring is sheared or not? I have had a few saws that I got where they would not recoil and it was either due to a broken spring or too much gunk build up around the spring. Sometimes the inside end of the spring deforms and doesn't catch in the pulley. If the pawls are worn then they may occasionally miss when you pull. Take it apart and post some pics, we might see something that is out of place.

Not trying to be cheeky (just mentally checking off what you did or did not do), but when you replaced the rope, did you wind the rope around the pulley three times and then wind the spring three times?

I had it apart and everything looks good to me, I did not do he 3 and 3 for the rewind. That’s could be the trick!

Finished this one up for the fleet, thin ring version, View attachment 459932
Beautiful saw! Mine is nowhere near that clean! I did fire mine up that the other day hadn’t started in two years. I can’t start it pho had to put a bar on it just to have enough weight to be able to drop the thing! Fired first pull!

Ok gents…😠I keep ripping the pull cord out of the saw so a few questions. I also broke a bid d loop handle in half…
1. How should I be attaching/ timing the cord on the pulley?
2. How long should the cord be?

Just to clarify, is the knot slipping (popping through the hole) or is it breaking?

Generally I will put in a figure 8 knot and work it so it wedges in and does not have room to slip out. Once tied, I feed the rope through the outer recoil part and install the pull handle. Then I wind the rope around the recoil pulley three times, then holding the rope in one spot at the recoil pulley, I will wind the recoil pulley around three times, then straighten out the rope and let go allowing the pulley to suck in all the rope. If it is still too loose, then I will wind the rope around the pulley one more time to take up any slack. I shoot for around 36 - 40 inches of rope.

My answer might not be correct, but when I re-wound the recoil on the @Squareground3691 2100CD, I'm pretty sure I used 36" of 4mm rope. I tied a good knot (double) and then fed it through the pulley. I wound the cord up on the pulley the right direction and then wound up the spring. I usually try to wind the spring 2-3 rotations more than there are wraps of rope on the pulley. Once the spring is wound, feed the end of the rope through the starter housing and tie on the handle.
