Here is another question I have.

On the back of the oil pump there is an o-ring which sealed it to the outer bearing race.
I want to replace it.

Would a 288/394 oil pump have the same sized o-ring?

The bearings and shaft seals are common so it has me thinking.

I think I will go download some IPL,s for a look

Could just nip down to your local bearing shop, they should have one to match the old one.

I will suck more if it goes with some fresh fuel.

The fella at the shop says it stinks of rotten fuel.

Fingers crossed

The only reason they didn't fix it is because they legally cant sent it out without a chain break.

I will just remove it and be happy.
I never use the chain brake on saws with one....... ever.

I believe the same o-ring was used in the 44, 298, 3120 and a few others.

I went to the local bearing place and a 35x2mm o-ring fits perfect.

I got the 2101 home and motor looks great inside.
Muffler is rusted out and stuffed.
The fuel in it was putrid, milky stinky stuff that smelt more like kero than petrol.
I think it was ethanol fuel too cause the fuel line has turned to gum and I expect inside the carb will be the same.

I recon if the fuel lines and carb are fixed it will go.

I think I will just tear it right down and do the job properly.

I have some spare carb bits and the old fuel line from the 2100.
I might throw them in this arvo and see what happens

Does the old fuel kinda look like paint thinner that was used to clean white paint off a brush? If so try not to suck any into the crankcase by pulling over, it will rust out the bearings in short order. I did that on a Jonsered checking for compression, the next week I couldn't pull it over, as the bearings were near froze tight from corrosion. When I checked the tank and saw what was inside I first thought was who would try and start a saw on old used paint thinner? Finally figured out it was old bad ethanol. Truly nasty stuff. Nice score on the saw, they are pretty neat old saws.

I got a 2nd hand clutch off @Iron.and.bark which was a ball of dirt and rust but the bearing surfaces of the shoes were really good.
Pulled it down, coated it in penetrant oil for a couple days and then threw it in my SS wet media tumbler I use to clean rifle brass.

Came up like new!
Fitted new Hyway springs, which were a bugger to put on, and put it on the saw.

Carb kit new fuel line and new oil line turned up as well as the K@N filter so I do believe, other than the on/off switch that's in the mail, I am just about good to get it all together.
