Ok, but I want to be really sure that Its going to help it before I start grinding.

Pristine KS 2100 cylinders don't grow on trees.

I might widen the exhaust a smidge while I am in there
You can cut the piston and get the same results.Well about the same.If you are worried about f--king up the piston get another one and carve on it .

I was thinking that on the way to work today.
If I lower the intake, and then need to fit a 395 piston down the track, I will end up with a really low intake after the machine work.

I am thinking I will take it off the piston skirt on the intake side.

Will that cause any issues?

You can buy an aftermarket piston in the thirty dollar range ,plus if you remove the gasket or cut the cylinder base you are effectively lowering the intake which for all intents is the same as carving the piston skirt . Depends on how you look at things, another way to skin the same cat .

I didn't do a thing to my 2100 .What the hey it will out cut an 066 and it isn't like I'm going to race it .If it were a snail I'd tweek it but it isn't .

Removing the gasket lowered the intake from 70* to 71*
I was planning on taking it down to about 75*, as well as raising the exhaust from 107* to about 100*

Have you timed yours Al?
I would love to know your numbers for comparison sake.

Reading this thread and opinions on changing the opening time makes me wondering if I am mentally defective or something.

From what I know. Lower the rpm the saw operates at the lower the blowdown required. If this saw is going to be bogged down milling 30" plus timber, it ain't going to be doing 12k rpm, more like 7-8.

2ndly the curvature of the exhaust port is also points in keeping to a low amount of blowdown. As the squarer it is, the more is required.

I probably have a screw loose, but I would not touch anything..

Righio...... With the theory of what us done can not easily be undone, I will leave it stock and just give it good air filter and exhaust breathing mods.

Muffler is being done tonight and the V stack is on order.
Just need to settle on an air filter now and order it.

I haven't done anything to it besides replacing the coil and rebuilding the carb and some incidentals. It might not be stock any way .It came from some island of Washington state with a V stack and a K and N filter . I have a D-handle on it so it might have had some work done even before I got it .I just assume it was some loggers saw at one time .

It went like this .Some kid shows up on another forum, makes some posts .Asks for advice then finding out a coil for this thing is around 200 bucks puts it up for bid .I think I got it for 90 .It was a shot in the dark but it went okay .I found a coil for 50 . He couldn't figure out how to pull the flywheel to even get to the coil .Poor kid was in over his head he just wanted to cover his losses .

Magnus actually got the bid but found out shipping from Washington to Sweden was going to cost a bloody fortune so it passed to me .

That muffler mod turned out better than I expected. Nice work, do you think the size is much bigger tgen stock?

Ha ha you doubt me grass hopper :-)

It was a solid blank plate stock, so I guess that's a yes.

I think the big gain will be in the removal of the baffle around the muffler intake.

There is something odd going on with this saw.
Old mate sold it to me because it would not turn over, but when I got to his place, it would turn over and start again. He still sold it to me and I just thought he was being weak.
The other day I went to turn it over after removing the cylinder and it wouldn't move. I put a bit of mix in it to rinse it out and it turned over fine again.
I just lifted it up on the bench to see if the new chain sprocket I bought fit and it wont turn again.

I think there is an issue with a bearing cage that is locking it up sometimes.

Looks like she is getting a complete tear down.

I haven't seen case gaskets for these for sale...... I assume I will need to make one myself?

YEah I didnt look hard, I am sure they are out there.
I am just settling into accepting tere is bugger all out there for 2100's.

I have lots of good gasket material and if I need to, I can paint a case half and press it on to make a template.

There is one on GT for $400 about 4 hours up the road from me that looks to have had the muffler butchered and the chain brake chopped off.
If its still available after a week I will go in cheaper.
