This is an old thread I came across while seeking information ,which I didn't find --yet .The problem is the AV mounts on a 281 .In changing these I thought they were all the standard size but the forward mounts obviously were too long .As a hunch I ordered two of the shorter design from like a 262 .I was not able to find if that is correct or not and it will be weeks end until I get them .
I have a wild guess that some time in production something changed and could have been listed in service bullitens if Husqvarna had any of same .Has anyboddy else found this out ?
What I've found regarding info is you can find a dozen opinions .Some say eliminate the forward two .Some say compress them but that rubber is so stiff it would be next to impossible to squeeze both if them a 1/4" each .Some say use springs instead of rubber mounts .

The saw itself used to be a good runner until it wasn't .I changed the high voltage coil on the two piece coil,Rebuilt the carb and the only thing left was the fuel line which I suspected was collapsing .Which by desgn I think is common on Husqvarna saws of that time period becauseI have a 2100 that did the very same thing.
Anyway in changing that fuel line I discovered all the av mounts were defective .Which in nearly going blind reading internet texts it seems defective AV mounts are a common problem .

Al, IIRC, I got some third-party mounts from Cutters’s Choice that worked pretty well. Good luck in your search.
