Like with the other ones this thread will document the rebuild and repairs of saws from this chassis. I am currently doing a full rebuild of a 288 for a buddy. It was an ex loggers saw and was in pretty rough shape, so this will take a while as it is being done as he can afford things.

Here is what we started with:

Aftermarket chain brake, seems to work well.

Old style starter.

Typical, operator presence lever gone.

This saw was ran with bad A/V mounts for a very long time. The holes in the crankcase were egged out badly and required welding. Shaun Carr did an excellent job repairing the cases and we elected to have Glock37 re-powder everything.

Gaskets and the PTO side crank seal yes for sure, flywheel side may be different on the early 181, cannot remember for sure. I will double check the part numbers to verify.

I have a 181 that I bought in a parts saw lot. Its been sitting in the shop for some time. I've never ran one (not being husky man and all). Always wondered what it would run like. :(

Strong, it would run very strong. A 181 had a tiny little combustion chamber and some even came with a thin ring piston. :D

Do a 181 and 288 take the same gaskets and seals?

Early 181s take the smaller 503 26 02-04 Seal on the flywheel side, this is the same seal that is used on the 61/272 chassis. The later 181s and all of the 281s and 288s use the larger 503 26 02-05 seal for the flywheel side and all saws on this chassis use the 05 for the clutch side. Also, the larger seal is the same one used in the 394/395 as well as the 2100 family.
