I'm sorry for hurting your feelings with my opinion. I don't think I said , Mike thinks the 462 is "weaky". Correct me if I am wrong.
The 572 fits me better than the 462. If i can't pack around at least a 390, then I don't think i should be in the woods cutting timber. I believe there is a thing called to light weight and stihl hit that nail on the head. I would pic up a 461 over a 462 every time, but I am a timber faller not an arborist stuck in a tree all day

No feelings were hurt. If you read my last line you will see I believe the two saws, although the same size, were intended for different markets.

For what I do (often trees less than 24" diameter with lots of limbs) the light 462 is perfect if you are just using one saw. Light, fast cutting, good power, smooth, clean filter, M Tronic and instant throttle response (great for limbing).

If I had to run a long bar all day long, the powerhead is too light to balance it, and the spring av is too soft. For 20 + 24" bars, it is perfect, and that is what I run.

To have the power of a 460/461 with the weight of the former 362 or 562 is just wonderful!

I'll be 68 this summer, and if I were forced to do all my limbing with a 460/461/572 weight powerhead I would run out of steam fast!

If it were 20 or 30 years ago, it would not bother me, but it does now! In fact, my MMWS 261 (V II) sees a lot of run time!

I guess the bottom line is if you are looking to replace a 460/461 you may be better served by a 572.

If you are looking to replace a 044/440/272/372 the 462 fits the bill, and unless $ is your primary concern it also replaces the 562 and 6100 (same weight), which makes it a real nice all around saw.

I also often have piles of logs delivered. When climbing over the pile of logs I prefer a lighter saw, and a 20" bar so as not to "overcut" into the next log.

Your equipment has to fit what you do, and it is different for all of us.

The robust build of the 572, and increased torque of the longer stroke certainly has advantages in many situations. Each saw has it's place.

You limb with 70cc saws? o_O Your killing yourself. I fell and top (cut off leader branches and make a few slash cuts) with a 70-90cc. But when I’m slashing brush and limbs I use a 50cc saw.

I limb with a 66-72cc saw
I'm far to lazy to take more than one saw
Cutting
Honestly the 266+ platform is no heavier than some 50/60cc saws
Still haven't got a 572 in locally.
I'll gave to get one online if i want one.

When I was logging I'd drop trees for a full tank of fuel, skid them to a spot where I would limb everything with a 40-50cc saw and then skid to the landing. 3 stages, 3 saws, felling, limbing and bucking

All depends Mason. I often use my MMWS 261 for limbing, it is perfect for it, but sometimes I will just break out one saw to do it all, and it is hard to beat a ported 462 (13.2 lbs powerhead) with a 20" light bar for that purpose!

For 18 yrs I only had one saw, my 10 mm 044. The ported 462 is lighter, smoother, faster, stronger, etc.

Sometimes, it is just nice to only have one chain to sharpen when you are done!

This is what I “limb” and top usually with the 572 after felling it. Very easy, not difficult. I like the torque of the 572 better for felling and it doesn’t get pinched as easy as the 462. 9F5DABEA-8EAA-498B-B53F-3492C504E9FE.jpeg When I gotta slash a bunch of crap like this at the end of some jobs when we’re, I’ll sling a smaller saw. Your wasting your body using a 70cc for that and it’s hard on the crank with all the no load rpm.E613C28F-183E-4C3D-A0B6-726961A5AED0.jpeg Usually the skidder runs over most of it so it’s rare I use the small saw logging.

That’s me. It’s a lot easier to fit one saw on the tractor than 2-3. Sometimes I’ll pack and extra bar and chain along with my axe and wedge pouch. I’ll have another saw in the truck but I usually take a 70cc saw with a 28-34” bar everywhere. Plus I mill with my 70cc saws a lot. I do t think a 462 would like a 36” bar and 30” mill hanging off it like a 460 did.

Mason, when you have to limb Maple trees in someone's yard so they can drag all the brush away, it is a lot more limbing than what you do.

Like I said, different saws for different purposes.

I would not want to do all the limbing I have to do with a saw that is over 1.5 lbs heavier … plus, the 462 has quicker throttle response and I'll bet it will buck most 20" hardwood faster than your 572.

My ported 460 pulls a 36" bar just fine, but if I need a 36" bar it's attached to a 066/660. They balance it better, and pull it better, especially when milling.

Narrow trails and all steep hills here
I run a 24" so i don't get tangled up riding my atv
Liking the new oregon 24" versacut
Light and cheap
And don't have to bend over much limbing.

Residential and logging are two different things. 462= tree guys saw. 572= loggers saw.

I’ve gots the carpel tunnel, so which saw would be better 462 or 572?
First things first, lay off the motion lotion (lol just a joke) 462 or 572 would do you fine. The vibrations on both are nearly nul, the 462 is a touch lighter.

Husky 572 weighs a pound and a half more than a 462 and my 2171 at 13lbs. The husky 562 is just over 12 and a half lbs. I really don’t notice a lot of difference in the weight of the last two mentioned but there defiantly is in power.

So the antivibe on the stihl and husky are equal?
My newest Stihl is a 460

572 is definitely smoother

The early 562s were lighter, when they fixed the case they went up to 13.2 lbs, same as a 462.

A half pound is hard to notice, but if you are limbing a lot, you will notice 1.5 lbs. more.
