I'm not using a 462 with 33" too nose heavy..
And why I'm here? I don't own a 572
Just own too much saws to buy a new one..

If it won’t pull my favorite bar size it’s a piece of junk

It seems like a great saw for some people it just not me. A 460/461 was a great 70 cc saw to run longer bars. A 7900 kind of falls short in that department as well. A 372 and probably the 572 are the other favorites for me. It’s like stihl went all yuppy on the 462 and 661 springs and didn’t build enough toughness in to make them lighter.

LMAO. I hear you Mike. They just need to make some different strength springs to retrofit to their saws. Give the owner some options depending on use.

They needed to give the 661 another mount on the front or a vertical one like the 395. The 462 is like a 60cc saw and I would think the mounts wouldn’t last long bolted on a mill or with a long bar. Stiffer springs would help to an extent but they didn’t copy husky good enough for the tank mounting.

So, a powerhead that is 13.2 lbs and more powerful (easily) than a stock 044/440 or 372, (both icons), and you call it weak? Nonsense!

It may not have the torque of a 372, but it is also 1.5 lbs less, and much better for limbing with instant throttle response. It will also likely cut faster in 20" hardwood.

As I have stated before, which one you prefer will depend on your intended use, they are very different saws.

Yep, 462 just like a big bore 60cc. It weights too light to handle long bars.
The AV is not heavy duty enough to handle long bars too.

Anyway.... speaking of AV I did notice in the 572xp ipl, that they offer stiffer version springs.

575 01 53-03 (stiffer spring for normal handlebar half and full wrap). 589 69 91-02 (stiffer spring for xpg handlebar half and full wrap). This spring comes with the wrap kits it looks like. The other two springs are 503 85 41-03 (lower front spring). 577 06 27-01 (back spring below carb box).

With the stock springs it seems fine with a 24-28” bar which is what most people will run on a 70cc on east coast North America. 32” I feel it could probably use the stiffer mounts. So you western guys probably should get those standard on full wrap saws I’m guessing.

I'm sorry for hurting your feelings with my opinion. I don't think I said , Mike thinks the 462 is "weaky". Correct me if I am wrong.
The 572 fits me better than the 462. If i can't pack around at least a 390, then I don't think i should be in the woods cutting timber. I believe there is a thing called to light weight and stihl hit that nail on the head. I would pic up a 461 over a 462 every time, but I am a timber faller not an arborist stuck in a tree all day

I sure have to change my style on upcuts bucking logs on the ground with certain spring saws compared to a rubber ms460 or something along those lines. They are more floppy and harder to feel where the tip of the bar is at (insert perverse joke here lol). It’s a trade off, less vibes... more flop. That said, the 572 isn’t too bad... some like the 441 I actually have to aim 2” higher than other saws when felling cause it sags so much. Lol
