Since a thread on AS a few years ago I’ve adopted tree monkey’s theory on gutting stratos. If gutting the stratos helps, the transfer area isn’t large enough or transfer timing is off a little bit
I wouldn’t gut the stratos on my 572’s. There worksaws for me so I appreciate the fuel economy. It’s great fuel economy is one of its strengths. I wouldn’t want to ruin that.

Fuel economy on a ported saw? Mine drinks a lot.
Oh yeah it’s a possibility with these 572’s. They are still pretty thrifty after ported considering how small there fuel tank is. A 372 or 460 usually eats more fuel than they do in a days use.

My banana'd 572xp was still outstanding on fuel....could do a lot of cutting on a tank. On the other hand, my 2165 play saw...that thing can drink :)

Do you have to do much if anything with the strato port size, shape, timing, etc. when porting a 5 series husky?

Great video- summary a good touch. Next stop, ported 288 and compare
That’s exactly what’s gonna happen next. I wanted to use one of my other saws as a benchmark and the ported 572 seemed like a pretty good one.

I haven’t touched the strato ports yet… but I have tweaked the strato linkage on the carb to give much better throttle response. They are a little lacking in that department stock.

Yea, the throttle response is enhanced quite a bit after ported with them

Nice, do you do any machine work when porting?
How do you like those 3pt dogs?
Covered all that in the overview video, but yeah no machine work on my saws. The 3pts aren’t my cup of tea… but I can see how they are useful for certain applications.
