Opening the needle sooner let's more fuel in last I knew

That goes along with what I've seen.

If you have the lever too high and have to basically shut the low side off to get it to idle then I could see it causing a return to idle problem.

Or a lean lope at 1/8 throttle. My 346 does that. I was going to lower the lever so I could open the L screw a tad

Opening the needle sooner only lets fuel in sooner which isn't good for idling. It cannot let more fuel unless you make the hole larger.

It's probably just an air leak at the intake anyways.
