How to square file

No attachment. I haven't mounted the wheel yet to see if it will line up. I'll read that post at lunch and check it out.

I doubt it will line up. if I understand correctly...from what I read from the tech bulletin on it....the way the usg attachement works is you lay the head completely sideways...then you swing the lower clamping plate into the wheel. there was a kit at one time that allowed it to work. ive never seen one in person.

Then it would basically turn it into a swing arm? I agree its not going to work proper without it.

I figured it might be more to it. Theres guys here that can't sharpen a regular chain right so if I can't find the attachment or swap it back easy I'll have to learn to square file by hand better.

I believe so yes...basically. at least from what I can understand from the 1984ish tech note....its kinda hard to read. there is also a diamond dressing attachment that needs to be mounted to redress the wheels.

That'll cut, but your file was a tiny bit low. And your file should probably point downhill a bit more. It'll cut like crazy like that, but won't last as long

Thanks. That was with the the Stihl grinder and rock. I'll play with the angle some more

very cool. what angle did you use on the head tilt?

I left it at 40°. I may try 50 which is max. the other 2 I put on 20 to get the angle closer. I'll try and move the head base a few more ° to get the angle steeper. I'll play around with it some more before I leave and see what happens.

Yes, looks like you're just coming in a little low which will create a top beak.
