remember don't drive and file
File those gullets first.Picked up a file today. Also grabbed a loop of Oregon square ground chain just to see where it starts. Square filing is weird...but I'll figure it out. Guessing you guys file back the lower portion of the tooth that is left behind after hitting the tooth with the flat file?
File those gullets first.
It'll make filing with the square easier. Less chatter.
What shape and brand of file did you get?Do you just knock it back with a round file? Sorry that I'm asking questions that may have been answered. Those gullets are what made me say WTF when I put the file to my chain. I know now that my angle of attack was way off. Knowing that you do knock those back makes more sense now. I thought my file wasn't thick enough to make the right cut or somethin. And so begins round 2....

Nice to have a saw dealer that stocks them. Around here, no one knows what they even areIt's a 6 sided file. Not sure of the brand, got it at my local husky dealer. I'd go down to the barn to look at the brand but we're in the middle of some bad Thunderstorms at the moment.

Proper working corner.Got it thank you, the pic helps. I assume a better work chain profile has the additional point in the gullet?
Just gotta make sure to get the corner or the file lined up with the corner on the tooth. That's what I still struggle with. Can't tell if yours is or not on my phone
