How to square file

Think I'm starting to get it. Took 3 chains to get a cutter like this and still room for improvement. Sadly I'm sending a round chain to the build off due to an agreement with another member. Might be getting my hands on a 60DL loop of carlton in time to try squaring it up and send it.

No. There is no corner. Cutter is rounded...

I don't think you would want to try and hand square file a Carlton chain. You'd go through a couple if files, as the cutters are very hard chrome.
Ask me how I know...lol

Can't agree more lol. I'd say it's right between Oregon and Stihl chain.

Yes. You guys are correct. Stihl is very hard chrome as well.. Both will just kill the files.
I will pretty much only try and convert Oregon chains now.

Having a grinder makes converting easy.

I have to say I’d rather take a file to a Stihl chain than to a Carlton in most cases. Carlton .325 is just about the worst to convert, in my opinion. Doesn’t have a nice crisp outer corner, and factory grind leaves a lot of meat to take away before you can get into the cutter itself.
