Good ideaI bet there are some dealers that still have some on the shelf. Good luck finding them!
I believe I'm catching your drift, and if you think I'm marking them up, call Ahlborne and order some, I'm not making money on these, just trying to get these files to these guys.So if stihl charges/charged $6.23, getting them from vallorbe has to be about that same price. I did not dive into ordering any, but this confirms what I thought.
The guy that posted the pic I shared said it’s the same file as the Vallorbe. Did you post a pic of your $8 Stihl one? If not, can you? I have a Messicks very close and if it’s that file, I’m ordering some. TIA

Even with vise grips I think you can still hit the strap unless it’s a shallow angle for a race chain. I try to stay out of the straps as I’ve had them break right there beforeSo what's everyone's opinion on gouging side plates an drive links? I know you can do individual cutters in vise grips and avoid the gouging but I don't bother. I don't think the gouges are a big deal as long as you don't get too far through the rivets.
That part of the chain doesn’t change position whether using vise grips or a chain vise, does it? Never tried vise grips thoughWith vice grips I really don't hit it at all.
Looks like in your other pics that the next link back is taller when bent over so it would probably hit that one first anyway when using vise grips. I know JR sure filed a bunch of chain using them so they sure must work

If someone is getting those files for less that $10 a piece I'm gonna be pissed! Lol Ahlborne would be making tons of money on them, I pay 12.50 a piece shipped to me.
That Bahco on the left has a pretty good set of woop-de-doos on its right corner.View attachment 227405

The LH file came from Stahl's Sawmill and logging supplies. Save edge brand. the Rh came from Western supply in colorado. Tough to do LH cutters with the save edge.
