I've just used the carbide bits on bars. Worked good enough for me.

Worked on a big oak today. I had a problem with the bar tips locking up. The 36" bar tip locked up; went to the 28" bar and it eventually locked up; went to the 25" bar and it locked up also. It took me 45 minutes, 75 cuss words, and a half gallon of sweat to get the 36" bar to turn again. One cut and she was locked up again. It is a big oak so the bar is buried on all bars. WTF am I doing wrong and is there a solution? I am ready to order all hard nose bars and tossing these in the trash.

Out of curiosity, what brand of chains were you using?

660 worm gear need replaced?

More oil to the bar groove/chain.

36" chain is Oregon full skip. The 28" and 25" are Stihl chain.

I don't think the 660 worm gear needs replaced but I don't know.

028 is his 'big' saw. Sports a .325" x 20". [emoji849] Poor thing.
