Are the catalpas as much of a nuecence as I think the bradford pear that is turning in to a noxious weed around here?
They are really not a nuisance tree around here. These are in a grove north of a barn, there has been one large Catalpa tree there since I was kid. The fences haven’t been cleaned or replaced since they were put in in the 50’s so they had a chance to proliferate.

Catalpas aren’t a prominent tree here & most are yard tees, you seldom see them growing away from a yard or farmstead.

Mulberry, honey locust, autumn olives & red cedars are the prodigious spreaders/nuisances here.

I have never had to deal with catalpa trees. I know they are a softwood so that tells me enough about firewood quality. But, they are amazing when they bloom.

Is Catalpa any good for anything other than brush pile fodder ???

I may keep a small amount for some shoulder season wood but most will likely get moved to the pile & torched.
Very good for carving. Better than bass wood in that it holds smaller detail better, has a pale white shade.

Speaking of firewood, I am cleaning up a mimosa tree tomorrow. How is mimosa for firewood, other than burns better than water? I will keep it anyway, but I was just wondering
Mimosa looks and cuts a lot like black walnut when sawed into lumber, probably burns about like walnut too.

What’s the beef with a used throne & sink ??

The used 3.5 - 5 gallon flushers sell for more here than the new 1.6 gallon flushers & work better too.

If you are on a septic system you are better off having a higher volume flusher.
He's cheap..... :smash2:
Next time we build a house for him, new everything is gonna be in the "contract".

Yeah, I prefer the higher flow old style over these new "green" ones.......but, experienced toilets have just seen too much, imo.

Tree fairy called yesterday so grabbed this today. Got most cut up and moved to the backyard. Got a lot of splitting to catch up on. Loads like this make me wish the truck had the on-board scale.View attachment 463284View attachment 463285View attachment 463286View attachment 463288View attachment 463289
That bum finger hasn’t seemed to slow you down.

I would have been in getting that restitched because I would have mashed it numerous times during the loading/unloading process.

2 more raccoons this week. One two days ago the dogs ran up an oak tree in the yard & another one this morning that they ran up a Blue Spruce.

They were laying out there under the tree this morning just looking at the front door, waiting for me to make an appearance.

Had a time locating the garbage panda in that spruce.
