Sister had the drone guy come spray 40 acres too wet to get on with a sprayer Saturday..

Interesting process..

He sprays an 18’ path.
Gets 2 acres per tank and 2 tanks per battery suitcase pack.
Once the field is mapped, it’s automatic.
Takes about 2 minutes to re-fill tank and replace battery pack.

Yes, buts it’s creepy as all get out when you don’t know that thing is out there floating around& you glance over at set of flashing lights hovering just across the fence from you…

My buddy Chase has one like that, he uses it to put his fungicide & cover crops.

If I remember correctly you need a 12,000 watt generator to keep up with battery charging.

There are 3-4 people around here with drone services. The guy that owns the machine shop in town has a drone business with one of his friends. I believe they have 3 of those octodrones.

Chase crashed his into the side of his shed after reloading it. I think he had too many barley pops but he denies that assessment. Lol.

I think the one Chase bought was about $24k but he just does his own.

You have to/or supposed to have an FAA license to operate the ag drones.

I will ask my wife if she knows what Colby charges an acre.

She said she thinks he charges $13-$15 an acre plus chemicals but she doesn’t have much to do with that operation.

Looks a lot like the one my nephew sent me pictures of about a month ago. Demonstration for conservation department application.

I can tell you one thing about drones, they really pizz off bumble bees if you land one on a nest or try to lift one off on or near one.

I don’t recall if I shared this here or not.

I helped Chase set his off the trailer one evening & then left. About 15 minutes later he called & said he got blasted 2-3 times by bees.

Apparently we set the drone off on a bees nest & didn’t notice.

Rain again. I guess a UPS driver pulled across in front of someone on a motorcycle on Monday afternoon and killed him. Happened over in Kansas. I keep telling these young drivers that speeding and trying to see how fast you can get done leads to too many mistakes.

I will try to see if Colby will give me his rates, they may vary depending on if applying herbicide, fungicide or cover crop seeding.

What will that cost UPS? And will it cost the driver his job, assuming it is his fault and he was speeding?
