Makes perfect sense.
Only up side is that there are people not from your area, willing to pay an outrageous sum of money to shoot your deer.
A lot more than the deer are worth.
Big question is "What percentage of that money is being spent locally?"
And how good are the locals at poaching?
Questions to ponder..

One of the arguments against leasing is, we would remove alot more deer, saving alot of wrecks from happening, if locals were able to hunt these areas. Sporting clubs purposely take as few as possible to let those trophies get bigger.

I wonder how much they spend locally as well. I know automotive and farming supplies, most are really good about buying local, but I know for a fact, they don't buy all their groceries and household items in town (I do).

Lol! I've heard stories of some hunters going rogue and doing things they probably shouldn't be doing. I've never been a lucky person, so I tend to steer clear of any of those types of shenanigans. I choose to approach the issue at it's source and talk to the landowners. It pisses alot of them off, but them getting mad doesn't change the truth.

I want everyone to be successful and all that, I just with they'd practice what they preach.

Clearly the seller screwed up. I figured (hoped !!) it was just a typo and I could get a partial refund.

At any rate the turd runs and pumps 150 psi. It might need crank seals or it could be the china carb. The bearings have no felt play. The OE carb came with it.

Give it 'The Dip' tomorrow.

This makes the third 026 we have tinkered in the past two weeks.

I didn't think about it in that aspect, but I bet that can be a pain in the duff! Those folks like hunting more than me. There's no way I'd ever pay that much for a deer. Then again, I'm strictly a meat hunter. Big difference.

I'm guessing you probably can't log places that are leased, since it takes away deer cover?

I get what you're saying and I do agree. It's their property and their right to do with as they please. I kinda follow your line of thought and several others out here share them as well. If I was a landowner, even if I didn't hunt, I'd come up with a way to make money, but do so locally, cause it's to a point, where most of the local guys would have no problem paying a local landowner for the privilege to hunt their ground, but I suppose it's easier to deal with 1 person or outfit and get a payment and be done with it.

Back in the day, when my Grandpa was alive, he had some of the best hunting in the county and let several come hunt his property. His payment was, by the end of the season, a full freezer of meat, to supplement his beef supply. Then again, he came from a different time, lived through the depression and knew what was truly valuable and it wasn't the almighty dollar. So I was raised with a different mindset than most people my age have today.

As mentioned I really wouldn't care, if they weren't hypocrite's about it.

Evening all! I see both sides of the discussion. I can't stand hypocrites, but machinery prices and gov't regs aren't getting better... I'm truly fortunate to have two places to hunt, one via a rancher that I've known and worked for on and off for 25 years now (1100 acres) and my Wife's Grandmother's ground (900) that only has two other real hunters in the family. But, one is a KU grad, and decided to pump ridiculous amounts of money into stands/feeders, etc, and now believes that somehow I don't deserve to hunt it as hadn't chipped in, and shouldn't be getting the benefits of his money. My reply was that I was far more interested in does, having taken both an 8 and 10 pointer off of the place, and I was there to hunt (i:e; field-craft, stocking, no guarantees, etc), not simply to harvest.

He's an idiot for putting the money in there, as the deer were beyond plentiful, and large anyway with no rel pressure. There was no pre-agreement to renig on, or discussion, hence my lack of give-a-S-word. But, he's also the spoiled d-bag who couldn't be bothered to help plant or harvest the wheat, during the eight month period between my late F.I.L's Cancer diagnosis, and subsequent death. I was there on both counts, not doing a great job, but doing my best to help the family. (Note: I'm farbetter with a combine, than I am with a drill). He's never been there for anything beyond the hunting. I was raised to earn the things I want. So I'm there decently often with Shalie, helping her Grandmother with whatever she needs, as I truly appreciate having the place to go.

The other ranch is between Leon and Beaumont KS, and while also plentiful, has had a lot of poaching and tresspass annually right around deer season. Nothing will piss you off more than poachers scaring the deer off while your in the field, after building lord knows how much fencing, working cattle, etc, to earn the privilege of being there...

Now, if I had a section or two, I would do some leasing. 1 large player at the sucker rate, and 3-6 locals at a far better rate, and I'd make no bones about it.

I got a funny story about that.

A friend I went to HS with has some land. He showed me a patch of trees I could cut a few years ago. Said I could go cut anytime. So I started cutting; not every day, but every few weeks. On about the 3rd or 4th trailer load I go by his house, which is about 10 miles from the property, to show him the load I cut. He goes, "WTF are you doing cutting right now, it's deer season and I have the land leased out!!!" I thought anytime meant anytime. He cussed and I laughed at his arse. No big deal, we are still friends, but I don't cut there anymore. My point: I can only imagine what those leases do to logging.

I shot one 2 hours after clearing 2 shooting lanes in the brush.. the saw was tossed in the brush pile I made from the trimmings..

They ain’t as delicate as some would think. A whitetail deer is possibly the most adaptable critter we got in this country.

Your correct. I had an uncle that had a stump in front of his stand and he had an old McCullough chainsaw he’d let sit and idle there every opening morning. He always killed a deer within a few hours. Said deer were curious and wondered what the noise was.

There were 9 deer in the field in front of us. After he dropped the first one I thought they would scatter and be gone. Nope, they all stood looking in the direction the Deer had fallen. Some actually went over to check it out. That's when another one got dropped. Same story again. They appeared to be curious as to what was going on. It didn't appear that the report of his rifle was even heard because the others hardly moved. That's when he dropped a third one. All of this happened within 10 minutes after sitting in his blind for better than 3 hours.

I did the same thing with a bow last year. Dropped the first doe and the others went to see what happened to it. Got dropped too. Very curious critters they are.
