Yep. When I was a newb I bought an echo top handle. It lean seized after a few tanks. I took it back on more than one occasion but I guess they didn't know how to tune it either. I just kept running it until it wouldn't run anymore. They replaced the piston/cylinder, seals, and crank all under warranty. Then you got it and rode it hard for awhile,,,with a proper tune.

It was a great saw..

I had zero issues with it.. the one I got now same way.. runs great. Zero issues...

To me, it also depends on whether a saw is clamshell or split mag crankcase. Split mag crankcases + 2 ring pistons = pro saw to me. Split mag + single ring = mid grade. Clamshell + 1 ring = homeowner

I went once. It sucked and it killed my feet; felt like somebody beat the bottom of my feet with a hammer. The things we do and endure for our kids, especially the daughters.

7900 = single ring.

Stihl ms170 = 2 rings.

I prefer 1 ring.

An 039 will never be a "pro" saw. But, Dad's old one sure put a hell of a lot of firewood on the ground for over a decade before it's untimely death... And, the one that Chad built and brought to Dan's GTG in Arkansas was an angry Mf'er.
