Might check the date code on the side of the tire. I noticed a lot of rubber fragments both large and small on the roadside on my trip to and from St Louis last weekend in this hot weather.

BTW this comes from a guy that hauled 5500 lbs of gravel a couple weeks ago on a trailer with a 3500 lb axle with 20 year old LT truck tires on the wheels. [emoji11] "Don't do as I do, do as I say." [emoji14]

Tire carcasses litter the interstate shoulder. Mostly tread belts from OTR trailers but one sees the occasional pass car tire.

Age, heat and overspeed does them in.

I was following a truck on I229 when a tread rolled of the right rear of the trailer.

Fortunately it flipped over to the side and not in front of my Corvair. [emoji90]

Corvairs have very little ground clearance.[emoji15]

Difficult to argue with this, but it is expensive. Car tires have a slightly longer life, though.

Last summer, Nancy had a flat in the Mother Ship, a 2006 Sienna. The donut, stored under the vehicle amidships, had a nice deep crack running all around the sidewall. It had never been used, was 12 years old. The tire was shelled, so I took the wheel in and got a new tire mounted and installed it. THEN, it took THREE months to get a new one. It was very hard to find, and it cost 325.00 for the tire alone. Ebay had a bunch of old weather-chapped ones on there for 50 dollars, dating from 2004 to 2006. Yeah, right. This is a major safety issue nationwide, I'm sure. All these ten-plus year-old donut spares, I guarantee when you see some old beater rolling down the highway with one of those tiny things on the front driver's side, coming right at ye on a two-lane.... that's a yee haw moment waiting to happen.

The Mother Ship is sporting a brand new spare, and if we never use it, I'll consider it cheap at the price.

When I was riding my scoot across the country a few years back, I was leery of those semi tires, which I assume that is how they maintain them, just let tham fly off on teh road, which means it's time to replace them....
Sixty pounds of flapping slapping whirling dervish in your face is a sub-optimal event on a scoot.

I've debated buying a full size spare for my Sienna. But worried about cost. Now not so much at all.

It's everywhere. It's amix of fine sawdust, sap, and good ol' used motor oil. God, I wish people wouldn't do that. It is really destructive, and it is bad on the oiling system.
Oh so the junk is on the outside

A lot of the new GM vehicles come with a compressor with a can of sealant attached to it--no spare tire/wheel. It has a valve that switches between air and the sealant. You blow in the sealant and then air it up. BTW the can of sealant has a date code on it to determine when it has to be replaced.

First time I see one of those was on a smart car. My coworker still bought a spare lol.

Where did he keep it? In the garage?

I didn't think them had a place to carry a spare.[emoji848]
Behind the passenger seat lol. His wife is short. When he drove it to work I'd park my 88 civic hatchback next to it. Made that Honda look like a land yacht lol

How's it going flatlander.
Good and busy, cleaning out mom's property after my step dad passed in March so we can turn in the keys. Got new tires on the s-10 and new calipers on my F-250 so I at least have a sense of accomplishment. Chickens are doing good looking forward to them starting to lay.
