this is a tillotson carb. One of tbe Stihl OEM variations.
That choke thing can sometimes actually be caused by the hole in the filter base not being aligned just exactly right.. I have had it happen on OEM 066/660 saws several times....loosen the two carb mount nuts slightly and see if it still snags.... Then you will know if its that or the actual carb itself....

Speaking of CL scumbags a couple years ago I was selling a truck hood a Florida area code texted me. shipping would of been x4 than the hood lol

After a text from this last scammer I started getting a robo-call with a Washington, DC area wanting me to key in a two didget passcode to actually talk to the chithead.

I'm not falling for that. Gave him a GFY and blocked both numbers.

Yes, a lot of the scumbags have Florida or Kalifornia area codes.☠️

I don't know what it is about over the road truckers buying chainsaws on Craigslist. I seem to sell to them too. Handy when I also work in the truck service business.

Sometimes it's not the actual trucker buying the saw, it could be a friend or family member that knows he's going to that area so they search CL and find things he can pick up for them.
My father in law is a car hauler and I do it to him all the time :) Tulsa, Maryland, Iowa, Michigan and on and on.

I had the carb out of the saw. Issue was the shutter was misaligned and the mandrill itself needed lubed on the bearing surface in the body of the carb. It actuates smoothly and consistently now

I fixed dads saw today, it had a cracked
Spark plug wire, broken start handle, loose carb, and bent a/f cover bracket .
I also gave it a good cleaning .
It was a dirty old girl View attachment 56356

Nice old saw! Love that clean old bar! I'd be tempted to take it off and cut with a bar with worn off lettering. Sure seems like old Homelites are common in my neck of the woods. Are they like that everywhere?

More specifically, the top handle xl and variants. I see a lot of them.
