old Detroit power unit came with this one... Hadn't run since 03...cleaned the tank, new fuel lines, and changed out the battery. She fired right up, but the governor was stuck wide open. Thought she was gonna blow there for a second, bout had to change my britches lol!!!we have to replace a couple wheels on. The sled and put some new sharp bits in the blade but other than that its in Really good shape for a hundred year old machine. The guy we bought it from had just had the blade re hammered before having a severe atv accident. Rolled a mule off a cliff or something like that, he's just now getting around good again...

Nice Chad!

My cousin's husband in Michigan runs a small sawmill in the winter.

One morning he couldn't get the small diesel to turn over. Water had somehow built up in the flywheel housing and froze. It was a real head scratcher for a while.
He and Dale (my other cousin) milled all the maple flooring for Dale's new house.

Picked up a Mono 35 from a flea market Sunday. Froze up. Sprayed some Kroil in the cylinder a couple of days ago. (Thanks for the Kroil, Doug) Put a ratchet on the crank this evening and, after about 5 minutes of gentle persuasion, it came free. Rolled it over a few times and noticed some strange crunching sounds coming from it. No spark.
Hmmm. Looked on the floor and saw about a pound of dirt where the saw had been sitting. (Light bulb moment) Mud daubers nests behind the flywheel. No wonder no sparky. Take the flywheel off tomorrow evening, clean things up and try it again.

Not quite Steve... From what I've read so far I would say that those are the 3 style and that the ones on our mill are of the b,d,&f bit style which are interchangeable... The major difference is that of the shank. On the the one in your pic appears to be a single circle style shank and ours has a double circle where the shank that holds it in has a separate circle center...

Put some pics of that up please.

So when are we having a mini-GTG/field day at Chads????? Inquiring minds want to know!

@Hedgerow : No, we haven't ran them but we need to. I think yours is about a step ahead (both running the same B&C) of mine though. I still need to retard the timing to get it to quit popping too.

@awol a spicy 390 would be a welcomed addition to the experimentin' and stuffs. Someday I'll have one, but too many irons in the fire right now, with saws, mowers, a gun and a possible change in trucks... Looking to sell my 7.3 to get either a CR5.9 or 6.7 Cummins, or a built 6.0 now that I know what they're capable of... Got a few in mind locally.

Now where/when would we do this saw experimentin?

Mine didn't come with a bar but I had an old Mono bar that fits, however it's not the one for it. This one's about 28 long. I suspect about 16-20 is correct and probably a "beaver tail" style. I've got several of those. I suspect one will work, after all it's an AH47 engine. Pretty common stuff for back then.
