Any experience shortening trailer axles? just regular old spring type, not torsion.

I've seen some that appeared to have been cut in the center and welded back together.....

Been thinking about building a trailer, but most of the affordable used axles are for 8' or 8'6" overall, and I want more like 7' (or so) to the outside of the tires.

How much weight are you planning on carrying with it ?

Older Ford Courier/ Ranger & Chevy Luv/S-10 rear ends would likely be narrower & much less sought after than newer stuff.

I have seen some that have been cut & welded as well.

Different offset rims will change your width/footprint as well.

Old pickup rearends is a possibility I hadn't thunk of.

I want it narrower to make it easier to tow on our skinny roads.... my tilt trailer is 8.5' and it really sucks on narrow bridges with other people that think they are entitled to 125% of their half of the road.

Probably not going to get 7k per axle on old pickup axles, I was thunking more utility trailer around the farm stead.

You get more volume with 102” trailers but the 96” are easier to navigate with.

Volume isn't a real problem with oak logs, (especially when towing with a 3/4 ton pickup), and my equipment is all under 5' width, so I'm thinking 5' to 5.5' deck plus fenders would make for a very handy package.

It’s cold..

No idea on snow total, I think it was less than they were crowing about but still had to plow the driveway..

Coffee is hot, but the house is not.
Wood stove is going full bore, but having a hard time keeping a 75 degree differential between outside and inside.

What do you have for back up? Propane? Electric? Why not kick it on?

I'm tired of cutting new paths to peoples houses in order to walk through snow drifts to deliver some old ladies QVC package that she got bored and decided to order off TV. Probably going to have some leg cramps tonight. Might have to take off tomorrow. We had more people off today than we did working because of call ins.

I will be burning some 1980’s vintage Osage & some 2022 vintage Mulberry tonight.

I had to shovel out a bucket full of coals last night to make room for more firewood.

Shouldn’t be much trouble keeping the place warm it’s been in the upper 70’s - mid 80’s all day.

Been cycling the furnace fan to put some tempered air in the crawl space.

I keep my back up t-stat set at 62*, I got sweatshirts, may as well save the propane for cooking, hot water & clothes drying.

Sitting in front of the fire, cup of coffee number two, watching the temperature drop from the -4° it is currently at. I have natural gas in the house and in this colder weather I fire up the furnace to push a little extra heat under the house to make sure the waterlines don't freeze. Air intake is next to living room where the stove it so it preheats the air going to the rest of the house. We will turn on the fan at times to help circulate the air but it only runs on a slower speed when on manual.

Morning folks. The GFA never turned on as there was a good bed of coals under the last load of oak deposited last evening.

Temps warmed to -2f overnight / +16f a bit later so they claim.

Just noticed that the deck is creaking with the warmup outside.
