I have a question for you all. What are your thoughts on adding a hitch to the back of my 16' utility trailer so I could pull my splitter when the trailer is loaded? Is it a bad idea? Okay around town but not for the highway? Just plain stupid?

Is it even legal?

Around here the splitter would need to have fenders and a trailer lic, IIRC. I got nailed for no fender while on the hyway, and the officer explained that if I had stayed on secondary roads it would have been OK. He further added that if needed to be on a highway to pass an obstacle( think bridge over water) I should have exited to back side roads ASAP.

Oliver1655 used to pull his bucking trailer and his splitter that way. He didn’t seem to have any trouble with it. I’ve seen it a couple of times around here. Not real sure how steady it is. But then, I worry about those things.

If I recall correctly, by Missouri law, he said the front trailer had to be a ball hitch and the second one had to be a Pintle hitch. But that’s been several years ago. Why I don’t know.
Matt pulled his stuff once doubled up, I think. I’m sure he will chime in.

Depends on the state you live in. I don’t have to have plates on my splitter. They are considered a farm implement. Like a baler or hay rake. Fenders are always a good idea though. Mine has them. One fender has a seat on it for my wife to sit and operate the splitter. My splitter also has lights on it.

Laws are just recommendations. Give it a whirl & report back. 😉

I would definitely slap a slow moving emblem or a magnetic red light on the back of your splitter if you do proceed.

Every state has their own guidelines for towed equipment.

Are just thinking of adding a receiver hitch to your utility trailer ?

In Iowa if it has a ball hitch, lights, insurance & registration is required.

If the towed equipment is attached by hitch pin then no lights, registration or insurance is required.

Or that’s what I have been told. It often times depends on who you speak to about the the guidelines & getting clarity & enforcement of said guidelines.

I am of coarse referencing talking to the IDOT enforcement officers, what a bunch of ambiguous clowns.

Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas: “this is the law” clear as a bell. 10-4, thank you sir & have a good day

Iowa, “Well, that’s a gray area”, “Well, it’s officer discretion “ , “can you phrase your question in a different way ?” ,

Their favorite thing to do is give out warnings & tell you it won’t affect your record. They should carry a BS flag & wave it proudly on the way to your vehicle.

You can’t fight a warning, it goes against your insurance rating & affects your overall score.

The IDOT & IDNR are the same incestuous agencies full of power tripping ambiguous d-bags.

Rant over, I digress.

Thomas, just give the OK State Patrol a call & inquire. If you are concerned about them tracing your call & checking up on you, drive up to Matt’s & use his phone.

Rainy here. Hopefully it moves out soon. I'm wanting to try out a new MS361 I built with an 044 carb.
I came to the conclusion a few years back that if I am forced to work in all weather situations, then I will do what I enjoy in the same weather. I just find a way to work around it.
I can't wait to see that...
You haven't seen rain before?

Used the dog control for reference. Might remove a few eastern red cedars for clearance by a fence. And the hedge is just because. Look close and you can see the remote in the middle just over my head height.
