For sure. I ended up noodling all the bigger rounds into firewood. My splitter was just making a mess of what of it would actually bust. I started paying more attention after that.
Matt had an elm tree at one of his GTGs; nothing would split it; no hydro splitter could. Doug had the big super split designed for elm,,,NOPE. You should have seen Doug hitting that piece of elm with the Super split. It looked like a ball of cable when we were done. It wasn’t very big either, 8-10” diameter. Had to noodle the whole tree!

That's about how this gum was. If I managed to split a piece, it was mangled too much to stack. So it got the noodle treatment. Hell of a lot of work, but not terrible firewood.

West coast trees scare me; they are gigantic.
They can be intimidating, but in general they behave much better than stuff here does.

Here, everything in the woods just feels malevolent....... like it really does want to kill ya, but also would like to cause you much pain and suffering in the process.
And, other than pine & cedar everything here is hard as rocks..... in the PNW, most stuff saws like butter.

I've never cut anything too enormous, if memory serves me right I believe my biggest was a cedar that was 48" on the stump and 175' tall, I milled about 3.5k bf beveled siding outta it.
