I sawed lumber for this guy a couple years back without any trouble.The walnut logs are “free” only because he couldn’t sell them to someone else..
Look em over real good before sawing.
Sorry for the downer info, but most people are just *s-word, and there’s no such thing as free..
Fortunately, you have the ability to sort lumber from *s-wordty firewood..
The story is, he was going to have me mill the logs for him but he procrastinated and eventually changed his mind.
I looked at these logs when they were still trees and they were all "woods trees" not "farm trees", so hopefully nothing wrong with em.... other than being partially rotted.
I agree, you have to watch out for "free deals" but I've actually paid really close to zero (other than operating expenses) for most of the logs I've gotten this year.
