Good morning!
The other day, I acquired the third of four saws sold out of Springfield, MO. This saw was manufactured by Mitchell in Monett, MO for Cave Carburetor Exchange.
It's got a 131cc Power Products engine.

What was the bait of choice?
Shad. Just use a throw net and catch whatever we need. Drifting with what would be considered a carolina rig if bass fishing. Small bullet weight, swivel and then about 16" of leader with a circle hook. Lazy fishing kicked back in the boat and let the wind do the work.

Spent the weekend closing up the cabin for the season. And for you guys that crave colder weather, just know that it’s on the way. Leaves are past their peak color and a fire felt really nice in the mornings. We even saw some of that white slop coming out of the sky for a bit Friday. Got some saw time in too, so everything turned out good.

That stuff is about like burning coal

Sent from the Hoskey Hill country
I was hoping that it was ready to burn but the bigger pieces tested 24% - 32%, so it all needs to go to the outdoor stacks for a year or so. Most of the stuff in the 10” - 12” range tested good though.

A tree is just a bundle of straws..

When it dies the moisture through osmosis leaves the upper branches first and it settles as far down the trunk as gravity allows.

Most standing dead’s have “some” burnable pieces from the top, but quickly transition into 30% plus into the trunk. Almost as if ya cut it fresh..

Once the “bundle of straws” is cut to short lengths, the moisture can actually escape the ends. The shorter the faster.

I’ve cut 12” stove wood in the spring, and it was ready to burn by winter, but there seems to be some magic in that 2-3 year old stuff.. the old adage is 1 month per inch of length. Give or take.

That being said, if a tree is off the ground and shed its bark, “some” drying can occur out the sides, but that’s about 1” per year, as opposed to 1” per month.

If I cut an oak board 2” thick, it’s not “normalized” to our relative humidity till about 2 years.
There’s a few tricks to speed that up, but not by much. Minus a kiln. Or vacuum... lol

That vacuum thing is the way lumber for use in cooling towers was treated. Draw a vacuum in the huge tank spray the stickered lumber with the liquid chemical with right resistance to whatever the hot water is onna Carry. Release vacuum and the rise to air pressure forced those treatments into the lumber. Stopped being family biz in '84

I knew the 1” per year on boards, I have never equated that to firewood though. I am not sure why, it’s all wood & needs to dry. Lol.

I have no idea how long this one had been down. It really doesn’t make any difference what doesn’t burn this year can sit on pallets & dry out for future use.
