I haven’t seen any Poke Weed. Those red stems & berries are tell tale of that.

in this pic those look like pokeweed berries but it’s just busted of head of a horse weed.

I saw reddish/purple stems and what I thought where berries, hard to tell from the pictures.

I want them hay bales......
Find a flatbed driver down there with a load coming this way & I am sure we can get something worked out & some hay sent your way.

When they released CRP here people were mowing it off like crazy, about 50% of what got mowed was brush, weeds & absolute dog chit. It’s going for $65 a bale for grinding hay which in think is a bit high but people are happily paying it.

After we finally got some rain the 3rd cutting of hay really took off, most of it will be by far better than the 2nd cutting.

Local name is giant ragweed. Time for me to put on the bush hog and rid some of it from my field.
I believe you are correct on the name, I have no idea why everyone around here calls it horseweed. It’s what my grandfathers & my dad called it so it’s just stuck with me.

Our horses love it. So maybe that’s where the old timers with the teams of horses named it
Idk just a thought

Probably just a regional thing. Horse weed was one the names listed when I looked it up.
