She decided that it needed to run. I told her I'd fix it up, if that was the way she wanted to go. We'd been buying a lot of stuff for her since she bought her first house. She decided this time it was her responsibility. So I hit CL and started looking. I found a REALLY nice rear engine Snapper 1 town over from us. She called on it this morning. Guy said someone was coming to look a it at 1 pm today. Said he'd call back if it didn't sell. I figured it would be gone by the time we could get there at 6. He called back at 2 and said the other guy didn't show up. I had an errand to run after work and it was a close call getting there by 6. She fell in love with it and bought it. $450. About half what everybody else wanted for a rear engine Snapper around here. She's named it Mr. Gump. I don't know who was more geeked about it, her or me.
:aaaaa:

Good deal. I'm glad she found something. These two mowers are still free to a good home if anyone needs or wants them. Pics available upon request.

A Forest Gump Snapper! Yikes!

I sincerely hope the yard is level. Them are evil on a slope. One we had would do a wheelie going up hill. But, someone had replaced the eight horse engine with a twelve.

Daughter gave hers to a friend.

It was the best thing for collecting leaves.[emoji108]

Fortunately her yard is pretty level. This one is new enough that it has an ohv engine. And it's a 12 horse.

Does it have to run? I have a complete (older) Craftsman that was beginning to smoke when I parked it last year. It would also come with a parts mower. Free to good home. They are both the 11 hp / 38" cut that everybody sold 20 years ago.
does it start? model no.? pic?

How Bigga blanks do you want...??
I'll see you in September probably..
Birch tree is having a loggers day.. Saw races will ensue, and I'll let you know the date.
Probably 1st or 2nd Saturday of September.
A typical knife handle blank is 1" X 1.5" X 5" so anything larger and I can cut them down on the band saw.
I have a knife show in KC Sept 23-25, but I might be able to go to Birch tree, just let me know the date. Thanks.

Hmmmm....
I have a chunk of walnut a fellow started for a gunstock fifty years ago.
Would it work for handles?

Didn't want to throw it away or burn it.[emoji849]

Crazy old man saves everything.[emoji57]

Yes, keep saving it and I'll get it at some point. Thanks.

Some boring background on the walnut gunstock:

We originally lived next to Mrs. Crow and her sister. Two elderly women. The late Mr. Crow was a gunsmith.

Ever hear or see of the 'Crow' safety for Winchester Model 12? That was the fellow. His shop was a largish single stall garage.
When both sisters passed I helped the heirs clean out what little was left in the shop. The attic was a big pile of Prince Albert type tobacco tins and 40-50 long gun walnut blanks.

The tins are what Mr. Crow used to mail his safety's to customers.

Walnut Log (now American Walnut) is located in St. Joe.
I ended up with a few hundred semi finished safety's, a handful of stock blanks, and more than a dozen wood shotshell boxes.

Some of the stock blanks would grade AAA Fancy or better.

Being a gun nut at the time I was in heaven.[emoji12]

Amen brother..

Any time I can step out on the porch in August and feel fall in the air, I'll take it!
62 degrees this morning!

Was watching "The last Alaskans" a while back. They mentioned that their fall was about 2 weeks long. Thought that was interesting. I wish our August was about a week long.
I don't do hot weather.

Dug it out. If I wetted it, the grain would really jump out.

I have several random chunks.

I hope this cool weather hangs on until the end of September. Then it can go straight to winter.

Me too. Started another big pecan blow down last night. This one grew in a small patch of trees so not a million limbs/branches like the last one. The owner was glad to see me finally show up. I told him it has been too hot. He laughed and understood.
