The only wild boar I’ve ever smoked was a hind quarter and was OK as bbq..

But it was not near as good as a pork butt..

Are there pitfalls with the wild ones?

Missouri open 365 except leap years lol. No tags involved don't recall if hunting license is needed. 60% or more disabled veterans don't need a license, proof of rating takes place of.

They're so destructive that most states don't even require a general hunting license, resident or non. In Kansas, we're getting a pretty good overflow from OK and MO. I'm cutting near Benton Kansas, roughly 30 miles N of the KS and OK border. Its illegal to hunt them here. There's been feral hogs there for years.

Good afternoon y'all

They are probably sneaking into Wichita & eating at the grain terminals, plus all those refuges/lakes that are in that area.

I can guarantee that if the Iowa DNR thought they could make a penny they would require not only hunting license but a hog tag/permit also. They wouldn’t care how destructive they were.

There are several folks around that go to Texas to hog hunt. A friend of mine has gone down there for several years to hunt, he bought 10 acres 3-4 years ago somewhere down there so he could move a camper in. He, his folks, kids, grandkids go 3-4 times a year. I can’t remember the location, he said the just shoot them & leave most for the buzzards.

They are a damn rare sight here..

The locals north of us started trapping em in corps land around Stockton lake..

Must have been pretty effective..

They are becoming a problem in OK, in some areas. My wife hit one on hwy 69 N of Muskogee a few years ago

IIRC traps or free to use or low cost 12 years ago when they found part of a couple fields interesting. Then I couldn't afford the new price and had to move off the farm Dad retired on to. Don't remember him smiling as much as he did on the 3 cylinder JD. Raking rocks, backing up to get em into the bucket and take em down to the fence row where they caught dirt in heavy rain falls. Glad he had that time. Maybe childhood dream that life interfered with.
Had to get the rocks out to drill in tall blue Prarie grass seed. Stuff grows in clumps, gets up to 8 feet or so tall. Roots go deep so isn't effected by drought.
