Here’s an odd situation for you all to ponder..
Guy brings me a real clean 455 rancher to fix.
Not making any power..
starts fine, good comp, new fuel lines, and primer bulb..
It took to the tuning screwdriver, but never could get it to wind up as tight as it is capable of..
Seemed to be making mediocre power for its model, but after he ran it for a while, back to making sub 40cc type power.. sounds fat still, but gets even weaker if you try to lean it out a little..
Just makes less rpm if you fatten it up..
Suggestions??
You’ve probably checked these, but my cheapest guesses are: Fuel filter, flywheel key sheared, trouble with the strato linkage not opening properly. Coils work in stages on these things, had a weird 445 do stuff like that.

Yup, those things. Start with the timing. Sounds really late.
It’s a royal PITA to get the low and high speed mixtures right on them.
I’ve had the ‘air valve’ thing hang open when the trigger is released. [emoji90]

New lines and filter all around.
Will check linkages again to be sure full open..
I'm litterally down to coil and possibly tank vent..
Either of you guys have a plugged tank vent show these symptoms?

I try to use tube and Sthil vent on all saws , they just seem to be trouble freeTank vent Matt?
I had that Husky last December that the vent was plugged.
And it’s hard to get to to boot.
I made my own under the wrap handle with a duckbill.

Pack the backside of the handle with cotton ball and drill a hole to daylight.

Those butterfly types are prone to problems, I even use sthil type on oil tanks as wellPicture as I'm not a stihl man.
Not yet, but it's on the list. Just a little lower down it is all. as it don't starve for fuel at idle.Have you checked the inlet s reel in the carb?

But that does give me another theory.
