Corvair thermostats:
4b063b422151f549544f2f57936666ff.jpg

Both of these were new several years ago and very expensive.

One can see the one on the bottom has leaked just sitting on the shelf.

IIRC they are filled with alcohol or a fluid that expands to vapor at 180 degrees opening the air exhaust door.

Working ‘stats are a must in the winter or you will freeze your arse. Plus performance issues as there is no ‘heat riser’ for the carb’s.

The one key to running/driving a Corvair successfully is to convert to the late model alternator and magnesium fan. Add in a commercial Ultra Vee industrial belt. 3V560. The OEM will toss in a heartbeat. Especially avoid using the early welded together steel fan.

A Corvair has twenty six extra places to leak oil. Twelve push rod tubes with an ‘O’ ring on each end and the oil cooler w/2.

Change the neoprene rings to Viton which has a much wider temperature service range.

The distributor shaft bushing is frequently worn out. Enuf so your points gap of .030” will just ‘go away’.

I got stranded several times before I tracked down that problem.

Change it for a new housing w/2 bushings. [emoji106]

All in all the vet is a better car to drive on gravel roads. The Corvair has only 4-6 inches and won’t clear any high center.
Back in the day when I saw a Corvair drive in I knew I had a gold mine in oil leaks to sell without lifting the engine cover.
A pair of Corvair turbo mufflers worked great to quiet down a set of headers and still get ample exhaust flow.

Good Morning Fellow Wood Knot's!

Today is both a Happy and Sad day.

We have been foster parents since March and now this wonderful girl will join her forever home.
The new family is well vetted and she will be joining her puppy and another dog.

You all have a Great day!

Lib slackers probably thing dog should be at home in his safe space with a pink collar and his snack bowl..

That four-letter "f" word there got my service director in some hot water a few years back.
He was at a convenience store and he saw a friend of his and jokingly called him that name. It turned out that the cashier took issue with the use of that word and noted the dealership name on my director's shirt and went on Facebook claiming that the dealership was biased.
The director was forced to go to a sensitivity course and participate in a fundraiser for the cause or lose his job.[emoji849][emoji3061]
Insane times that we live in.

View attachment 191631 Got another one this morning..

Just so he don’t take on a thirty five pounder. [emoji2960] He might come out second best.[emoji22]

The Corvair cranks over on its own battery. [emoji106]

Fuel tank needs emptied of the stale gas. [emoji1785]

Find a transfer pump I must. [emoji848]

Gonna try to go through this Disston carb. I'll have to make up all the diaphragms and gaskets. It's said that they're near impossible to get to work right. I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. The transmission-driven fuel pump squirts a stream of fuel that could feed a small block Chevy.

George has taken on worse before..

He’s pretty athletic. What he can’t kill, he can outrun.. got a motor that just don’t run out of gas.

I have been tasked with selling an antique that I don't know much about.
If anybody on here is interested, or if you know of a way to learn more about this item, then I'd appreciate hearing from you.
It is marked as
"No. 2 KEYSTONE DRY CELL BATTERY"
The actual stamping on the edge of the wooden box reads
"WHITALL TATUM COMPANY No 2 KEYSTONE"
The serial number is 3327
From what little I could learn, Whitall Tatum was a glass manufacturing company that operated from 1806 to 1938.
Their name changed to Whitall Tatum Company in 1901.
I can not find any references to a Dry cell battery though.
Does anybody have any ideas or have an interest in this device?

The mirror looking piece, is a bold in with a small clip, and appears to be like a shim or or a shield.20190720_141934.jpg
