8N is newer version.
Both similar but 8 had different transmission and supposedly a tick more power.

I'd like to have an 8N. Only because that's what my Grandparents had when I was a kid. It was used for everything around the farm. Anytime they had to get out somewhere or do anything out in the far reaches of the property, it was all done on/with the tractor. There was no "get in the truck and go check on cows" . The transportation was done on the tractor. The only thing the truck was used for was going to town. That was usually once a month, when they got their milk check . The truck they had, up until 1972, was a 1950 half ton Chevrolet deluxe cab . Bought brand new in Sept, 1949 . Kept having it rebuilt until it couldn't be rebuilt anymore . Then they went and bought a used 1968 Chevy half ton V-8. Three on the tree because that's all Grandpa new to drive. Automatics were unfamiliar to him and he wouldn't drive one.
I miss those younger days.

I ran an 8N at a golf coarse pulling a set of gang reel mowers. It was pretty pathetic, you'd have to sidehill to get enough speed to spin the reels.

The old Massey turf special pulled it much better for years till the governor stuck and the idiot driver unhitched the gangs and ran it full throttle across the fairway to let the boss know there was something wrong with it. It didn't make it far before it created an extra crankcase vent.
