I saw this today. I do not understand how or why they would do this. Maybe it’s designed to leak or burn enough that the oils is kept fresh by adding. An thoughts? This is a pressure washer.

Carl, you're exactly right. They figured that a lot of the owners wouldn't take care of them, and did surveys and studies to get the data. So, they designed them where thy'll burn a small amount of oil constantly (we're back to two-stroke combustion, in a 4-stroke cycle) thus requiring you to fill it up every so often. Likely a lot of people won't do this either, and then they fry the bearings.

We see that on a daily basis.
Cruze's are notorious for oil-related component failures. The EPA mandate for low petroleum product useage forces extended oil change intervals which is a big contributor to the failures. We've got a lady that puts over 120,000 miles a year on her Cruzes. She changes the oil every two weeks and because of her maintenance practices, her first Cruze made it to 480,000 miles before it was totaled in an accident.

Oldest granddaughter, Tyra, 15, is into old vinyl albums. So, daughter and both granddaughters went to the other grandmas house this past week north of Chicago for spring break. Grandpa, now deceased, used to be a party DJ and had a lot of albums. Tyra came home with Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. I'm sure some here remember that one, I grew up on it.

Mobil 1 has pulled many an engineer's butt out of the fire. Engine oils see duty as coolant for turbocharger and supercharger systems, hydraulic oil for camshaft actuator systems and variable displacement engines, as well as lubricant. It sees a lot of wear and tear in what is considered normal use that previous oils never saw. Mobil 1 is usually the "go to" when it's found out the the oil formula engineered for the engine/transmission design turns out not to work so well.
