Good morning!
We are off to a much better start at 17 deg this morning.

Getting ready to hit the road to go look over another project. 7+ hours of driving today...
After watching the weather repot last night, I was thinking 17 for a low sounded pretty good. But our temp here this morning was 3. WTF is that about?

It was 28 when I came home last night, and the thermometer was 17 at 5 this morning. It sure felt warmer when I went out to fill the furnace than what it has been!

Last time i used a hydraulic splitter i used it in vertical. Rather than kneel or bend over i sat on a round. Id roll a round to the splitter, sit, split, toss pieces into a pile, get up, get another round. The constant moving kept me from getting sore. Main advantage was i didnt have to hoist the round onto a horizontal beam. Get enough hoisting when i load them on the truck in the woods unless i drag the logs out with my truck.
To each his own. I prefer vertical.
Actually i prefer splitting with an axe, maul, or wedge/hammer but thats only when im not behind with my processing. Just sayin

I tried splitting elm with a sledge and wedge once, after the maul just bounced off. I drove the wedge in and it just sank like I was driving it into sand---not one little crack, no pop, nothing. Had to cut it out with a saw.

Yeah yesterday sure felt good, but over here, not that far east of you it dropped like a rock as the sun went down.

But I have no problem bending over or kneeling, except it seems it might be dangerous to have my face so close to that much force pushing on resistant logs. Some of those were some loud pops!

This reminds me of one more caution to be aware of when working vertically. When you're down there on your knees and you flip the switch up to retract the wedge, watch out when it gets to the top and pops itself back to neutral. If you ain't paying attention and that thing pops you in the head, it'll make you say cuss words.

Did couple riks of elm and wild cherry with wedge. Getting wedge started was main issue. Had wedge stick too. Just ran a fatter wedge in beside them and wailed away with the backside of the 10# mall. They finally succumbed to the pissed off nature of the beating. Great stress reliever ill tell ya. Wasnt able to split too many in one session though. Drained me of my excess energy

Well last night went south quick. Got a call from mom to help get dad up off floor his backs out and in the same sentence says my brother rolled his truck on the way there to help b4 they called me. I leave to go and slid off road into barbed wire fence with my truck. Dad is OK. Brother is OK. His truck is totaled. Rough night last night for sure. Hope all is well with everyone else.
