One thing that bothers me on almost all splitters nowadays are the wheels and tires. Too small. Way too small. 12 inch on a lot of them and some are 10 inch. I would prefer 13 inch at the smallest. I have 14 inch 6 ply rated trailer tires on mine.
And no suspension.
Here's why.
How many times have you seen a boat trailer or a pop up camper sitting beside the hiway with a shredded tire or, mainly, destroyed wheel bearings. Small tires roll way lots faster than taller tires. Rolling faster does 2 things. It builds up heat, higher and quicker, which breaks down the sidewall. It also spins the bearings faster. Which, if not maintained properly, will overheat and come apart or lock up.
Small tires also don't handle bumpy roads as well either. Which can be hard on the machine.
Mine used to be a solid suspension. Even with 15 inch tires on it, at the time, on a rough highway would shake me to pieces.
A short tongue will cause problems, too.
After one certain road trip, with mine, I installed 2k leaf springs on mine And lengthened the tongue about 2 feet. It rides and pulls like a dream now. Don't even know its back the there.

Might be easiest to just roll one up onto another trailer. The 30 ton one is sold out, but this one looks pretty decent. Once I start hauling home dead trees in my business, one of these (tax deductible) might become quite useful. I love splitting wood by hand, but my shoulders start hurting long before I run out of steam..

John Menards had some nice looking splitters. @teacherman
They have a Dirty Hand 27ton for under $1300. Is this a good brand? I had a Kohler mower engine in the 90s, and it ALWAYS started first pull, and never used a drop of oil in 6 years of commercial use. I just don't know if the hydraulics are good.

14 second cycle time.

The 30 ton Brute® is 1199.

I'm starting to actually think seriously about this.

FWIW: A tie rod cylinder is considered ‘tool grade’.

The threaded tube/cap type are mostly used in mobile applications (tractor & loader stuff).

Anyone else bothered by mice this winter!
[emoji848]
I was rudely awakened at 6:30 by one trapped in my bedroom wastebasket. He was trying to jump out without success.

Tossed his ass out the back door.

We’ve been catching one or two a week with glue (sticky) traps.

They have been nesting in the blanket surrounding our dishwasher. I cleaned and aired it out the best I could, and dribbled a bunch of peppermint essential oil, A reputed mouse repellent. Haven't seen them since, but sometimes a hint of the odor comes back. Glad I'm not trying to impress Martha Stewart in our kitchen...

My kids have caught 1 after it munched on the green biscuit and way a little lethargic and was hanging in the middle of the room. The 11 year old gloved up and disposed of it before the 3 year old yelling "I have a weapon" aka wooden block smashed it. Seems the biggest mouse factor for me is did they plant beans or corn across the street.

Corn brings them in.
