Morning everybody.
Started tinkering with a little Mcculloch last night. Late model little thing. Box saw. Looks like a Zenoah engine. I'm using a Ryobi as a road map. Virtually same setup, so its handy. Get it together enough to check for spark tonight. If good, I'll finish it up tonight and see if it will light off. Found some nos bars last night digging through the pile. See if one fits.
If it's the 38 or 41 cc version, it is a copy of the Zenoah strato engine originally made for RedMax. The Zenoah with strato was put in a few Craftsman saws, some Ryobis and maybe some others. As a non-strato it went into McCulloch, Earthquake, TroyBilt, and a whole bunch of others. I can lead you to a parts place if you need stuff...

Reminds me of something I saw on C-list:

Morning fellas! Got to hear my new to me 1952 cat d2 fire off yesterday. Been sitting 10+ years and pull started great! Smooth! Now to get the magneto working on the pony motor next! Amazing how well them old machines were built!

Yes it is! Kinda like the old saws!! It amazes me each time at just how much better things r fitted and built than currently.

Workers took pride in doing their jobs back in that time.
Like you mentioned, fit and finish was important.
Not so much now.
