Idk what solder you used, but there is a thin one that most people use

And there was someone that got it wrong and used the thicker stuff, well lets just say it didn’t compress all the way. Then it ended In tears. I guess they won’t make that mistake again

I,m just saying, it’s good to be sure your correct with the squish.. ;)

Looking fwd to the cutting vid :aplastao:

One of the best reasons not to use plumbing solder, instead use softer electrical grade solder, even better use solder just a few thou larger in dia than the expected squish out will be less rebound that way also.

I checked - the solder is .050".

Finished up the jug with the pencil grinder. Stayed .050 away from where the piston skirt hits the cylinder wall. Didn't remove any material from the top or the bottom of the port and didn't touch the intake port at all.

I ended up doing much of the final work on the port with a small round hand file. That was mostly blending from the inside of the jug working outwards towards the muffler flange.

There are a few rough areas that I'd like to smooth out; I'll either do this by hand or see if it smooths out when I hit it with some emery paper on a mandrel.

Muffler is done, too. Just needed a coat of high temp flat black.

Now I'm just waiting on some parts (rings) and tools (mandrel and emery paper).

Closer to .020 is what I would settle at. Mine is a tight .019 squish, with a cut band and base. It is very close to a stock MS440.

How is the saw coming along?

Right now, it's sitting on the workbench waiting for me to get back after it.

Was gonna get moving on it today but I had to drag this home.

And then I got sidetracked by an old Jonny Red after dinner tonight.

Is that enough excuses? If not, I can try to come up with a few more.

Yeah, that's my OPE bench. Built it a few years ago from scrap wood that I salvaged from work. We were living in Italy at the time; didn't have an SUV or truck so I used my beater BMW.

IMG_4485.JPG IMG_4483.JPG IMG_4486.jpg

Added casters and an old Wilton bullet vise that I refurbished and it worked well for a while.

Later I added the pre-fab tool holder from Swag Off Road for the side - holds grinders and lots of other stuff.

A few weeks ago, I got tired of not having room for tools on the bench, so made a small shelf for one side to put my frequently used fluids - Kroil, Simple Green, acetone, soapy water solution, etc. A few days later, I added a sheet of 1/2" plywood and some pegboard. Still need to tweak a bit of my organization, but it's working well so far.

Rechecked squish, this time with the thinner solder and no base gasket. I came up with .0135 on two measurements and .014 on two measurements. In other words, too tight for a base gasket delete. I have some thinner gasket stock, so I'll just make one.

Organization, work benches, steel shelving, and a clean floor. AWESOME!! If you don't mind me asking for a friend. Stock 036 carb or something larger.
