. I remember you and another member were discussing how to modify the HS so it can be tuned normally using the high speed screw jet, but cannot seem to locate that thread. Am I remembering correctly, and is there a way to shoot me a link to that thread if I am? Thanks in advance
I think it might have been on the Husqvarna thread concerning a Husky 2100 CD Some model HS carbs have a governer which is located on the carb as a slotted head brass screw .How it works is when the vibrations reach a certain level a ball inside it opens a secondary fuel channel which allows more fuel to get in, enough it slows the engine down .Often called a "rattle ball".The method I use is to punch a piece of gasket material the same size as the hole then screw the gov. back in which blocks off the channel. BTW after much consternation I replaced that carb with an after market unit that did not have a rattle ball .Runs and starts real good now .For more info you might Google Tillotson's web site and look at the model HS and how it works .Very informative as are most manufacuters .Fact another option might be You Tube .Keep at you'll figure it out .

Aha I found it .These are the two carbs the Tilley HS is the far left .Note the right side of the carb for the brass screw gizmo that holds the gov /rattle ball. The replacement carb ,right side of the picture, after market I had to swap the throttle shafts .

Much appreciated Al, I'll go back and re-read the 2100 rebuild thread! Mine definitely has the brass screw governor, I've yet to break it loose with normal mechanics' screwdrivers, has what appears to be red loctite. I'll probably break out the gunsmithing set to see if it'll come loose. Mine also has the brass insert that connects the H jet to the fuel chamber, but if I recall it does not have a hole in the chamber for the L jet. I'll try to remember some pics tonight.

I've not given up on it (yet), but just as a check I switched out the carb from a really beat XL923 and the 925 fires and runs for a few seconds, probably just needs re-tuning. I ran out of time available but will keep at it.
Thanks again for the time.

FWIW usually the rattle ball doesn't affect how they run unless some how it got stuck .Besides that I think the gov limits the speed to 10-11,000 which should be right in the power/torque range which I suppose that gizmo is related to the saw size as per rpm .Keep in mine that old Swede can easily handle a 32" bar running an 8 tooth rim like it is childs play if it's in proper tune

I just took my 2100 carb apart, the governor was in there really good with the loctite. I just used the biggest screwdriver I could get to fit in the slot of the brass fitting and it finally turned. Found that the previous owner blocked the passage. I removed the blockage, cleaned it out and reinserted the brass fitting with new loctite.

FWIW I live in what they call the "cherry belt " However those are black cherry not the kind George Washington was alleged to cut down with his hatchet you make pies from . They just die off ,firewood although I have 4-500 board feet of fine lumber from a few of the larger logs .They've been stickered and air dried for about 20 years .I have no idea what to do with them .

I like black cherries, black cherry ice cream is my favorite! The tree I have is a sour pie cherry. My wife and I took turns climbing up the ladder and hand picking them. Did it over two days and ended up with 24 quarts of cherries canned!

There is a harvester listed on eBay, but it is in really really rough shape.

I did some research on the Harvester in the local newspaper archives and Mr. Londo developed a prototype in 1962. When the patent was approved he sold it to Homelite in 1965 and they produced 12 units that year and did some changes to the design. Cost was like $700USD. Montmorency is the popular cherry variety here.

Wow...my grandfather bought a brand new Mustang in 1965 and paid about $2,400. $700 for the Harverster would have been an investment!

An easier way to block off the governor.

On the metering side there is a well beside the metering needle with a hole in it. That's where the fuel comes from when the governor opens. You can block that hole with a piece of nitrile "O" ring to prevent any fuel from getting into the governor.

I will have to remember that if I decide to block off the governor. Last thing I want to do on the brass slot is to slip with the screwdriver and booger it up.

Only a hunch on my part but I think the rattle ball was an early method of controlling the RPM's to address warrantee issues caused by somebody over reving them. Evidently this was before rev limited coils.

Prior to the rattle ball I'd guess they used air vane governors like a lawn mower engine .On those on antiques many times they don't work, spring is lost air flag missing .They can be bypassed which no more than the saw would be used probably doesn't affect them .Those who don't know would be surprised how fast an old McCuuloch can rev without the gov .

Pretty sure my 090 has the air vane that applies the choke to slow it down

My McCulloch D44 has the air vane setup too.
I've got a 44A Mac ,87 cc I bypassed the gov .because the air flag was missing .That old duffer is what became the MC 10- kart engine .It of course being stock compaired to a more modern saw is not as fast but that thing will pull like a Georgia mule .I have no idea how they came up with the 87's but they got that one right .My fav of all the big reeders .

I thought the air flag was missing on mine, I saw it in the IPL. When I went to clean the saw, I found that it was there, disconnected and covered with gunk.
