Hi all,
Would anybody happen to know the drivelink count on an old 3/8 .050 homelite-mount 32" bar?

Is anyone running the old oregon 32" bar? I've noticed the drivelink count is different than other oregon bars.

For example: on my 24" oregon bar for homelite (d196) the drivelink count is 81.

On all of my other oregon bars, the drivelink count is 84.

I'm waiting on a 105 drivelink chain but I won't be surprised if it needs something like a 102 or 103 drivelink chain.

Can anyone suggest a bearing puller for the crane bearing on my 944. I got a full set of 2 leg puller but the jaws are too thick to get under one side of the bearing. Thinking about grinding the jaw thiner but that won't leave much material on the jaw

Can you get a bearing separator under there? Like this one:

Finished breaking down my 750 parts saw. Found the cylinder to be heavily modified by the previous owner. Not sure how it would have ran. Will let go reasonably if anyone wants to mess around with it. Was paired with a walbro Wb3

I ordered that puller yesterday. I know you can just bust the bearing but don't way to take the chance of doing something to the crank. Thank you for the info

If you're able to get the bearing separator under the bearing, then you can use it in conjunction with a cheap steering wheel puller from the auto parts store and get the whole bearing off in one shot.

Last week a guy brought in 4 saws, two for repairs (XL2 & XL-925) and two donated for parts (XL & McCulloch 36cc).

I selected the XL2 first and in the process found a most interesting solution to the oiler connector...

...I decided to give it a try, and it actually works. Ther XL gave up a few bits in order to get the XL2 running.

With that saw done I moved on to an XL-925 which had no spark.

2 of the 4 issues are illustrated here:

20240703_123601.jpg

1) I fixed the broken/disconnected wire but, no spark.

2) I tracked down a faulty connection at the connector to the spark plug, still no spark

3) I searched out an IPL and looked at the wiring connections, and the generator and transformer leads on this saw were switched around (look closely at the photo again)...still no spark

4) I flipped the switch from "Off" to "On" and miraculously had spark

Saw now runs but I have a carburetor or air leak issue to track down.

Turns out the cylinder/base gasket was leaking badly. Why is it 8 out of 10 Homelites that folks bring in have either crankcase seals, base gasket, or crankcase gaskets that leak?

Anyway, it is now back together and behaving as it should. Not a bad running saw I must say.

I had to get a little creative to anchor the back plate (crankcase cover) to to the crankcase with two broken ears.
